42nd
This cheap little showbiz melodrama was directed by Lloyd Bacon the year before he would helm the much better "42nd Street" and "Footlight Parade". There's nothing really special going on here, but it's nice to see a familiar group of second tier performers all thrown together into one short little picture. Manners is actually a lot more charming here than in any of the Universal horror pics he showed up in.

David Manners swell head reaction to his new-found fame is ridiculous! "Why should people dance when I sing?" - "When I sing all of American is listening!" and all that jazz with a newly refined elegant dialect and mannerism. Not sure to take it as comedy or tragedy. While it's not a movie filled with laughs, it's musical film filled with sarcasm, both for crooners and for ego brought on by fame.
