Eugene is an extraordinary talent in classic guitar, but he dreams of being a famous Blues guitarist. So he investigates to find a storied lost song. He asks the legendary Blues musician Willie Brown to help him, but Willie demands to free him from the old-people's prison first and to really learn the blues on the way to it's origin: Mississippi Delta. Eugene doesn't know yet about Willie's deal with the devil, that he now wants to revoke. (imdb)

If I had to lay any weight on enjoying this I probably would've hated it, but as an indiferential play at a movie night in a bar I liked it plenty. Willie Brown was endearing. Karate Kid always looks like he needs to find balance. That's just about all of us though. Joe Morton is an underrated overactor.

For a Walter Hill film this is really blah. I never want to spend this much time with Ralph Macchio. Ever.

When I was about 13, this was my favorite movie. It was on the tail-end of the adolescent phase of "watching a movie you like over and over again", so I've probably seen Crossroads at least 20 times. I was absolutely obsessed with two things back then: Robert Johnson and stupidly indulgent guitar solos. I still think that this is a great concept, but I wish it had more "Walter Hill crazy" than it already does.

Ralph Macchio actually shows a little acting talent in this film where he plays a Northern wannabe blues aficionado that finds himself immersed in a world he used to THINK he understood. Great soundtrack.

The guitar duel with Satan (aka Steve Vai) is the best part, otherwise it's the Karate Kid moping around trying to look cool with his tiny little amplifier.

If you like the blues you'll love this film. Some fantastic tunes in this, wrapped around a hell of a film. The guitar battle at the end has to be to heard to be believed (plus it's the Karate Kid vs the Wyld Stalyons, top that!)

If you like blues, then you'll most likely like this one, too. Awesome music and the guitar duel at the end is just epic.

Mr. Vai broke me up with his mephistophelian posturings.

Memorable cheesy ending, with Ralph Macchio guitar-duelling this time instead of karate-fighting. Crap except for the campy climax.

Reminds me of when I sold my soul to the devil. Unfortunately all I got was a carton of Marlboros and a subscription to Entertainment Weekly. Not much of a story now that I think about it. Never mind. BTW, Steve Vai's the highlight here, duh!

Ralph Macchio's starring role constantly reminds us that this is basically Karate Kid Part II with the blues and Mississippi replacing karate and Japan. Hill's direction communicates his palpable love of music and Cooder's score is amazing as always. Still, Hill fails to tantalize the viewer into wondering what will happen next or engross the viewer long enough to forget how silly and flimsy the entire story really is. Within a week I'll forget all of it... except the admittedly awesome climax.

The blues may be decent, but Crossroads fails to back it up with a compelling story

Honestly think this movie was that good. The movie probably the best part about it.

It has a deep fried southern charm that you can sink right into the vibe of, a cool guitar duel and a great screen version of the Devil. No major complaints from me; enjoyed it.

Despite the predictable resolution and occasional conventions, it's an engaging journey about the blues, artistic expression and personal growth. The acting's really good, the dialogues fun and the prominent score great. The road movie plot starts at the crossroads and, via a lot of interesting stops keeping the viewers on their toes, goes back to them and beyond. The climactic guitar battle is of course iconic, though Steve Vai messing up and losing is the most far-fetched work of fiction ever.

Cute little low fantasy about two old souls living on the road, each one with his dream -- Willie wants to cancel the deal he made with the Devil, Eugene is willing to enter the blues scene and finally be recognized for his talent. Certainly not of Hill's most inspired works, but still good, despite the sometimes lazy script.
