When the inter-dimensional sentinels tasked with protecting the universe from a British guy who wants to bore the infinite planes into submission live in tents located somewhere in an eastern Californian desert, even Rutger Hauer's hair can't save you.

Moderately entertaining in a Rutger Hauer sort of way.

Starts out a bit better than you might expect and contains a couple of nice scenes but in the end this is just another straight to video garbage that populated VHS rental market. Interesting to see Jack Black before he became a star. Other than that, only for Rutger Hauer completists.

I always want to like an sf adventure movie, and Rutger Hauer does a good job playing an amiable tough guy. This film goes by pleasantly enough; there's just not enough substance or inspiration or craftsmanship or that much-sought-after sense of fun to make this movie worthwhile. Mostly memorable as the only other movie besides _Dead Poets Society_ in which I've seen Josh Charles. Weird how Ethan Hawke became the only star of that entire cast of preppies

Weird how Jack Black became the only "star" of that entire cast of preppies.

It felt more like one of the early 2000s cheesy scifi series, with a ragtag team and a regular joe as a reluctant hero, a supposedly big villain feeling more like a pedestrian, and cheap special effects. But most of all, like, 2-3 different filming locations fooling nobody.
