Crypt of the Vampire

Oodles of atmosphere, thanks to Grand Guignol direction and a way over the top musical score. This one certainly is fun, even if oddly a bit static in spots. The finale, with the two women running in their gowns, looked like something from a silent picture.

Boring rubbish,don't bother.

I started watching this late in the evening, so it's to the film's credit that it kept me awake. It's very stylish and atmospheric B/W Italian gothic horror which holds it own with more well known titles. It benefits greatly from the use of a real castle and surroundings. Christopher Lee is top billed and while he is good, the real star of the film is Adriana Ambesi as Laura. It took me a while to recall the Karnstein story, so the plot offered some surprises - some quite daring for its time.
