Cthulhu

From the title, I had certain reasonable expectations from this film. It fell way short on all counts. If you think that Lovecraft should have had more homosexual plot elements in his work, you'd probably like this movie.

While Cthulhu wasn't really satisfying, it could have been worse. The problem is the title; with a name like that you create expectations, but the only tentacled horror you come close to seeing is the main character's schlong. Aaaanyways, the acting was spotty, the protagonist is kind of a jerk and the story is incoherent, but it does have great atmosphere and mood at times. Seems like the makers aimed for something bigger than what they could accomplish.

This movie is interesting, but this movie is a big mystery that never unfolds. The story lacks completion, which I find a real shame. Could've been really good with a different ending (could've been open) but not like this) and more explanation. Has some ok acting and nice and spooky atmosphere. More Cthulhu and creepy stuff, less weirdness and sloppy story

There were parts that were effectively creeping, following the whole show less and let the mind do the dirty work. They even pulled it off without feeling the effects of a low budget horror movie, but in the end that's what it was. A B movie sordid sequel of Stuart Gordon's Dagon. The problem with Lovecraftian lore is that it's public domain and anyone can get there hands on it to make a movie, and in this case the suspense was cheapened by the okay acting and focus on a mystery that lacked.

It could have been better acted and a better story more Thriller but it is good as it was.

Not Good

Bad performances. Mostly looks bad too (except for some impressive oceans shots toward the end). But this movie has a heart that I actually love. With a bigger budget, this kind of adaptation that takes Lovecraft's fear of the other and turns it into the fear of being othered feels like the natural evolution of the genre.
