Cuadecuc, vampir

An experimental horror doc that I'm not sure what to make of. The overexposed images and ominous soundtrack definitely create an atmosphere of disquieting dread, but I don't feel it amounts to much. Still, it's only an hour and the visuals are probably good enough reason to watch it.

jesus franco is making a vampire film, and pere portabella sneaks in a camera to shoot what's happening. he records both the filming of the scenes and the scenes themselves, and the highly experimental result is almost certainly better than whatever bullshit jesus made, as well as far spookier than the silly story of nosferatu has any right to be.

Barely resisting the urge to call this an essential Dracula adaptation, because understanding its legacy isn't complete without exploring why we insist on retelling this gothic tale again and again. Cuadecuc, Vampir is a reflexive doc that deftly blends the macabre atmosphere of the story with candid images of the people making it, and somewhere along the way it manages to strike at the truth of our collective cultural obsession.

A brilliant experimentation on horror, documentary, and the hauntedness of cinema in general. The fantastic aspect of this movie is the argument it puts forward about the genre of horror: "horror is the most suitable genre for the spirit of early and silent cinema. It is therefore that first movies were vampire and fantom movies." Also, Cuadecuc turns into a cinematic vampire itself, sucking the blood of the production of the original movie. Nice.

Better with Sabbath.

Cuadecuc, vampir estreava há 50 anos no Festival de Cannes. Definitivamente este se tornou meu filme favorito com o Lee como Drácula, aliás só não é o melhor Drácula já produzido porque na frente estão os Nosferatus de Murnau e Herzog. BlurayRip RARBG.
