Using stark black-and-white imagery and a raw, digital aesthetic, Cut tells the story of Shuji (Hidetoshi Nishijima), an unknown filmmaker who craves great cinema like a junkie dying for a fix. The only problem, he figures, is that great films are dead -- unless he can find a way to make them himself.

Japon filmlerinden alışık olduğumuz "tekdüze şiddet", İran sinemasının izlerini taşıyan "mesaj odaklı" bir yapıyla birleşerek Cut'un kendine has kurgusal ritmini oluşturuyor. Son 15 dakikalık sekansta ise yumrukların, kanların ve "gerçek sinema"nın sergilendiği, sinema tarihine geçecek kadar orijinal bir kurgu akışı başlıyor.

Deliberately paced love letter to (or perhaps emergency room visit for) classic cinema is a stirring reminder of the passions that the Golden Age foster within cinephiles; a film centred around Nishijima's weekly film society would have been terrific (and bonus points for the aesthetic porn of that awesome outdoor cinema!) However, the ugly and brutal scenes of self debasement are repetitive and tedious - it is difficult to ascertain what the overarching metaphor is supposed to represent.
