High school student Paula Carson's affections are being sought after by two of her classmates: Dwight, the "bad boy", and Brian, a disturbed young man who has just been released from a mental hospital where he was committed following the suspicious death of his father. Soon after being released, more murders start happening. Is Brian back to his old tricks, or is Dwight just trying to eliminate the competition? (imdb)

Of an age where slashers had become so popularized that it's even hard to tell that this was supposed to be a horror movie. It's glossy and cliched to the point where its suavity becomes so normal that even a parody couldn't better point out the flaws with the slasher genre. It's nice to see an early submission of any big actor, and it's also nice to take a step back to see the later evolution of the slasher, but this is not a good movie.

Favourite scene: Brad Pitt getting annoyed because the photocopier was left on, wasting loads of paper.

Apparently Brad Pitt is not too fond of this film, but I thought it was a surprisingly fun late entry in the slasher genre. Not as good/goofy as "Blood Rage" for example, but still worth a watch for genre fans and elevated by Vinegar Syndrome's new restoration. It's not very gory but benefits from that nice 80's look and soundtrack. Maybe it was due to low expectations and beverages but I was quite impressed with the plot which didn't go the way I was expecting.

This was notable only because of Brad Pitt's later fame. The plot was fairly coherent with some guessing until the disappointing reveal that the most likely suspect was the bad guy all along. I'm sure the one headless topless scene was added to bump up the rating. Dialogue for Jill Schoelen and her dad were terrible. Nobody seemed to care about the # of deaths. Cool deaths. They had to end an '80s film on a freeze frame! Fav scene: photocopying death although that overstayed its welcome too.

Writing-wise, this is utterly incompetent. Jill Schoelen is enjoyable as usual & Brad Pitt does a really good job playing a really awful character, but beyond that there's just not much to see here. It's obviously trying to be a horror-comedy but fails, & the plot is choppy. Most of the dialogue is terrible, most of the kills aren't good, & every character is lame. The final stretch is the most enjoyable part, as it briefly goes from boring slog to campy fun. Still, it isn't really worth seeing.

Typical slasher fare that I probably shouldn't like as much as I do.
