A number of fighters are invited to DOA, an invitational martial arts contest. They travel to the tournament island by plane, until they have to jump out mid-flight with parachutes, and then have until sundown to reach the main island to be entered into the tournament. Fighters are then pooled against one another in a knock-out style tournament, with the loser of a battle sent home, and the winner progressing to the subsequent round. The plot revolves around four female fighters... (imdb)

This movie doesn't have laws of physics so much as it has suggestions of physics. Earnest in its dumbness, almost charmingly so. Also; beach volleyball!

In much the same way as Charlie's Angels, this film was fun in a 'pretty girls in skimpy outfits kicking people in the face to a techno soundtrack' kind of way. I wouldn't bother paying to see it, but enjoyed it none the less.

I'm giving these points to the movie only because of the boobs. But sadly, there was not enough of them in this movie.

DOA: Dead or Alive is trashy, but it's still kind of enjoyable. It's definitely not a good film, or one that you will probably want to readily admit to watching, but it's fun. The fight scenes are actually quite entertaining, and since they take up the majority of the film's runtime, you're entertained for most of the time. The CGI is poor, the characters are shallow and inconsistent, and the plot is ridiculous, but since the fighting was well-done, I didn't hate the experience.

Not nearly as sexy as it could have been and the action wasn't amazing, but there was a somewhat descent plot.

I was hoping for a ridiculous piece of titillation and videogame action as I have heard from podcast reviews, and playing the second game in the series when I was younger, but I got a dull and poorly made combination of cheesecake images and plot instead, cobbled together without the mad energy the 90s genre films of questionable origins had. It also gets rid of its best part, wrestler Kevin Nash and his charmingly dazed and naive performance, in the first half, which is even more unjustifiable.

This movie has a ridiculous plot and is full of cliches. Eric Roberts plays a very weak villain. I advise to avoid this one.

If you're intrigued by the depth of plot and multidimensional characters in your aquarium screensaver, you'll probably be engrossed by this. And by the way, it took two people to write this, REALLY?

Points for being a very faithful adaption because man, is this movie just as terrible and misogynistic as the game is. But at least it has Eric Roberts, his hair and Kevin Nash of all people. However, what it doesn't have is a plot that makes sense. I have literally never experienced such a big dirty mess. Utterly frighteningly terrible.

If you like hot chicks and/or cool fight scenes and can enjoy a movie for just those elements. This is the movie for you! I wouldn't give this an Oscar, but if I wanted to see some hot chicks and cool fight scenes I'd watch this movie again. What more can you ask of a movie?

If you're in it for the story, don't watch it. If you like fights and pretty ladies fighting, definitely try this one. The movie is about a couple of top fighters in the world, fighting a tournament on an island. Of course there is an evil plot in the background that the fighters slowly find out...

About what you'd expect from a live action version of Dead Or Alive. 2019 edit: Upping from 32. It's bad, but as a DoA adaptation it's charmingly accurate, even with the low-level cosplay. It also definitely has better choreography than SF and MK, though by virtue of being DOA it doesn't have any iconic maneuvers outside of smashing architecture. The dude playing Basically Otacon would've been better cast in a MGS film than anyone is in this one. Just realized Liu Kang is in this. Neat.

It's stupid, so extremely stupid, but it's a knowing, entertaining brand of stupid. Plus the fight scenes are wonderfully over the top. I was so close to giving it over an 80 but the acting was bad enough that I couldn't bring myself to go too high.

Extra points for Jaime Pressly, Devon Aoki, and Sarah Carter eye candy. The story is total shit, written by a 12yr old mentality. Nearly ruined by Eric Roberts. The movie is over amped into absolute stupidity. What were they thinking? With such a great opportunity to make something really good and fun, we produce this nonsense instead. Sad waste of money and resources and a stain on the genre. Overall, watch it so you can laugh at how bad things can get when idiots are in charge.

Hard to see why anyone wouldn't like this. Good story, good fights. I wish the fights could've been longer with more wide-shot moments but there were still many cool moments. Few plot threads get dropped but overall great fun. I think a lot of the negatives from sexualisation is reduced because the women are the main characters and all have real characterisation, but I'm not a woman so.. (spoiler: I'm glad they didn't drop the female leads once the brother re-appeared.)

It's a terrible movie with bad acting, a ridiculous plot and completely gratuitous shots of girls in bikinis. None of this should be a surprise and the question is how bad is it. To me this is the perfect example of a movie that's so bad it's good. The fight scenes are fun to watch, it moves at a fast pace and while the plot is stupid at least it's comprehensible.

When you know what you are going to see, then this can offer pure actions goodness. Anyone who has played the DOA games (even the Vollyball one counts) knows right away what this is going to be like, others should should just expect a B-Action Movie with hot chicks.

The story is stupid, the acting is bad and the characters are shallower then.... something shallow. So why don't I give it a zero? I'll tell you why: Holly Valance, Sarah Carter and Natassia Malthe in bikinis. That's why.

Utter Shock at the production values here. There seems to have been some actual thought put into the fight choreography, if not the acting or script. It's pretty much just a showcase for hot, scantily-clad girls to paw at each other, but it's entertaining and fun, so it gets a pass...

DOA was like a good porn film and I'm not only refering to the half-naked babes wrestling each other. There was a corny plot, simple enough not to get in the way of what the wievers relly want: the satisfaction from the endles flow of kick-punch-jump. DOA is honestly just the kind of movie you expect it to be. BUT. The chick with the purple hair did go over the top for me!

Most of the game characters only get a few minutes of screen time, and most of the better fight scenes aren't even tournament fights. Some characters (Christie) don't display their fighting style from the game. Still, kudos for the DOAX volleyball scene. Hmm... DOA women! (Ayane even has purple hair!) But that's really all this movie has to offer.

Plot's essentially the dumbest fucking thing in the world, fortunately there's not much of it. Instead we get meaningless fight scene after meaningless fight scene, complete with life bars and stats. As Al Franken would put it, "...and that's oh-kay."

One sleezy bitch this movie was, I must say. Trash! The story sucked, the CG sucked and characters. Phew! It entertained most of the time, but in the latter part it started to drag. Really. Can't beat the unbeatable Charlie's Angels AD 2000.
