I can't stand Will Farrel. He is the junior varsity lacrosse team waterboy of Hollywood actors. The Creationism museum of comedy. The brocolliflower of hairdos. Pairing him with a fairly entertaining Mark Whalberg does not cancel out Farrel's ineptitude. No, it's more like mixing raw horse meat and caviar, and I fucking hate caviar. There are parts where I chuckled, but those laughs are all forgotten each time Ferrel launches into some lame CG-enhanced attempt at zany meta body humor.

Mostly, Will Ferrell stinks. Mark Wahlberg did a little better. Some of the gags were good, but the acting performances were quite uneven. I'm beginning to really dislike Ferrell's delivery & screwball sense of humor. A lot of attempts at humor failed. I liked Linda Cardellini in her role. Thomas Haden Church also really stunk it up. The plot was very badly written & the dialog was not very interesting or clever.

To be fair, Daddy's Home isn't the worst comedy this year, and not even the worst Will Ferrell comedy this year, but it's not a standout in any way. Bearable for some dumb humor, but the whole film felt very awkward, even between Ferrell and Wahlberg who share some great chemistry. It's no my idea of a good comedy, but honestly it could be a lot worse.

Daddy's Home is a forgettable but harmlessly watchable comedy that has just about enough laughs to warrant a viewing. I love Will Ferrell but the stiff and awkward role is becoming far too familiar. And Mark Wahlberg also doesn't feel too different from some of his previous roles. But they work well together and to be fare this film does have a few over the top but laughable moments. Surprisingly though it's the underused Thomas Haden Church who has the funniest lines and he steals every scene.

Those two lines of dialogue perfectly encapsulate the fresh and foul smells that enter the room when Daddy's Home. It's got a good--even earnest--heart when it comes to the never ending demands of fatherhood. But moviegoers are forced to sit through a whole lot of crudity to get a glimpse of it. (pluggedin.com)

It's not bad, which is more than I expected. The climax has a weak payoff but there is enough there to make it an enjoyable watch. The Hannibal Buress and Thomas Haden Church characters are definitely highlights in this movie.

With enough laughs to make it worth seeing, Daddy's Home is a film you'll forget just a few days after you watch it, but if you're looking to kill a couple of hours with a comedy, you can do a lot worse. Ferrell and Wahlberg recapture the chemistry they shared in The Other Guys, the premise is at least somewhat interesting and leads to more than a few funny moments, and while it's mostly just fluff, it's entertaining fluff. It also contains one of the comedy highlights of 2015.

Standard Will Ferrell fare, half the jokes don't land, it's light, fluffy, and inconsequential fodder. The funny part here is that Marky Mark is apparently a better comedic actor than Ferrell--who's made a career out of it.

Amusing comedy is no world beater, but manages to genially play to its two stars' comedic strengths while spotlighting a fun supporting cast (Buress and a near unrecognisable Church are standouts). Gags are overly familiar, but those that land do produce mandatory chuckles; the teeter into mawkish sentiment in the third act is not a surprise, but still somewhat disappointing. Enjoyable enough, but forgettable.

Daddy's Home is moderately funny, despite supporting characters exclusively written as horrible people (save Ferrell's). Wahlberg seems to be trying to out-do how annoying he was in Transformers. This film does highlight a few things; first, sometimes a cheesy ending can help a film; second, Cena's agent is really good.

Cute step-dad comedy.... if you let it. If you don't, it's really not. Enjoyment depends on how "lame" you're willing to adjust your comedy meter, for the script is not anywhere near anything original and Will Ferrell only have so much to work with. In a way Ferrell & Mark Wahlberg kinda over-performs compared to the material they have.

There is no outstanding moments of pure comedic genious and that is unfortunate given the star power involved. Such a shame for Will Ferrell to have his name attached to a film that is so downright bland. I am not sure where his career derailed but bland and unfunny seems to be his new shtick.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg join forces once more for a hackneyed comedy with a dismal plot, offering nothing hilarious about a fight for attention between a father and step-dad.
The failure of Daddy's Home to elevate its stars' chemistry and their comedic gifts is its decisive downfall - mainly because we are fully aware that Ferrell and Wahlberg can induce a deadly japing duo. Here, their talented abilities are lousily misplaced and underutilized.
They are peacocks. Let'em fly!

Well, with these actors, it should be way funnier -- and definitely not have that silly moralistic ending -- eventually the two dads exchange stuff (one learns to be more fun, the other more responsible) and it's just too bad that the mother is just a mother, you know. At the end it just feels like a bedtime story: funny, full of metaphors but instantly forgettable and predictable.

I saw this movie on New Year's Eve, and what an unfortunate way to end the year. There were certainly laugh out loud moments, but the way Wahlberg entered and stayed in the house was lazily explained and constantly annoying. I love nonsense comedies, but there were not enough jokes for this to qualify.

The last couple minutes provided me with my only chuckle. Up till then, though, this was unendurable. Humiliation comedy is my least favorite thing in movies, and this is humiliation comedy cranked up to 11--Ferrell's mocked, trashed, and made a fool of at every turn by Wahlberg's character, whom everybody's supposed to love but who is one of the most loathsome characters I encountered at the movies this year. Who finds this toxic, hostile shit funny, anyway?

Gotta be honest: not horrible. I don't recommend it unless you're desperate for a comedy, but there are some actual laughs here and a slightly touching story. This was perfectly watchable. The set-up was funny and Ferrell and Wahlberg have a good chemistry. As a dad myself, there were some funny observations about family life, but it also kept repeating the same beats and left a lot of opportunities unused. The tone was also quite mixed; the motorbike gag was funny, but seemed to come out of nowhere tonally and it was hard to take anything even remotely seriously afterwards. Plus point for Thomas Haden Church.

It presented some interesting family dynamics. After all, nuclear families are getting more and more rare and it was wholesome to see that other family assemblies are no less valuable. The farcical scenes were hit and miss. If the basketball scene had been cut out and the fertility doctor and boss friend toned down, the wholesomeness would’ve felt more authentic.

Wahlberg plays the redemptive asshole very well (not far from reality?) and Ferrell, is well, Ferrell (we always know what to expect). While I only laughed wholeheartedly a few times watching this (e.g. the skateboard and power line incident), I did appreciate the moments of genuine male camaraderie between Brad and Dylan.

The epitome of formulaic Hollywood mass produced drivel. I struggled to find any redeeming qualities here. The characters are template shallow stereotypes. Their behaviours are inconsistent and chaotic, with little touch with reality whatsoever, and the actors show it with uninspired acting. All their actions serve "the plot," if you can call it that. The film is bland and boring, actively destroys brain cells, and promotes blatant anti-societal propaganda in a cheap and in-your-face way.

Kudos to DADDY'S HOME for trying to reach beyond the obviousness of its premise and actually telling a story about the impact of toxic people on the others around them. It's a big problem for a comedy, however, if the plot has a more satisfying payoff than most of the jokes. The movie struggles to find a consistent comedic groove, and settles for a disappointing one-track sense of humor.

Mostly painful to watch, partly because of its flat humour (see the lame CGI-enhanced slapstick), but mostly because of the excruciating humiliation and loss nice-guy Brad undergoes at the hands of bad-boy Dusty (the halftime disaster was more tragic than comedic). It makes the reconciliatory payoff that much more rewarding though (it was surprisingly mature too-see their airport convo), and the climactic dance scene promoting pacifism and selfless fatherhood was the perfect cherry on top.

The physical comedy (i.e. the bulk of what made it into the trailer, Will Ferrell having zany accidents with motorcycles and skateboards, etc.) is truly bottom-of-the-barrel stuff; it feels aimed at literal kindergarteners. Outside of that the movie has some halfway interesting observations on modern family dynamics and the plight of the stepfather and an amusing Mark Wahlberg. But overall this might as well have just skipped the big screen middleman and debuted at 1 AM on TBS.

Watched this on a plane in the middle of the night, so my judgement was probably deficient, but I kind of enjoyed it. I initially put it on to help me to sleep, but surprisingly, I made it to the end. I'm not sure it reached the required amount of laughs for a comedy, but it was mostly harmless. I could imagine myself watching this endlessly on cable if I was 10 years old and movies on cable were still a thing.

Look, I can't deny there are some good laughs here, not great but worthy of a genuine chuckle, and there's a good number of them, so there is enjoyment to be found. But when it fails, it fails hard, to the point where you question what the hell those involved were thinking. In number the effective jokes may outweigh the failures, but in quality they certainly don't. In between there's a mediocre attempt at pathos that is completely ineffective.

Farrell and Wahlberg team up once again for a comedy that's even more uninspired than their last one. They do share a natural chemistry, but they are saddled with weak material stuffed with cliched characters and cheap sentiment. Farrell is simply going through the motions. Wahlberg is funnier, but he has nothing to work with. Smaller roles don't leave much of an impression either. Cardellini is wasted as usual.
