Dad's Army

Mostly meh.

Top badass moment? Who needs Captain Marvel when we’ve got Captain Mainwaring? Even nowadays it's a 2 hour drive from Walmington-on-Sea (near Eastbourne) to Dover by road, more in the rush hour, so getting the platoon there and back in Jones’s van to patrol regularly would have taken superhuman abilities. A poor use of military resources in my opinion! However, the gunfight at the end is really quite touching, finally seeing them in a real battle. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

An inept civil patrol group of well meaning old guys & military rejects march around Dover England doing what little they can to help the war effort. When a pretty girl comes to town they all swoon over her. The antics are juvenile & mostly unconvincing. Extra points for having Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon & Catherine Zeta-Jones. The plot was entirely unconvincing but some of the antics were moderately amusing. The gun battle was almost hilarious. The plot & dialog is intentionally silly.

While a love British comedy, I was never a fan of the TV-series Dad's Army, and this new feature version is even worse....
