Peter Cushing in a tale about an empire with a machine capable of destroying a planet, who do battle with a motley crew of rebels: at one point, a rebel aboard an enemy spacecraft cleverly dons the helmeted uniform of an enemy trooper to evade capture, and two of them make an escape by sliding down a disposal chute. Ultimately, the rebels prevail by taking advantage of a design flaw they find in the empire's technological apparatus, causing the latter's spacecraft to explode into smithereens.

For including The Doctor, the TARDIS, and Daleks this has hardly any Doctor Who feel to it. There's really nothing to watch here but some pretty cheesy 60's sci-fi fodder, in other words, nothing of any interest.

Better than the first movie, cause it has a better plot and supporting characters. Still, I watched this one in the afternoon and could feel my eyes closing from time to time.

Bernard Cribbins as side-kick far outperforms the Roy Castle side-kick film - and good to contrast him with his current Doctor Who run!

This film is far superior than it's predecessor. It's all a bit more tamed. With more location filming, the film has a wider scale. The human stars are far more relatable and it feels more grown up. Philip Madoc for example is devious beyond compare. The climax is a little comical however just having a load of Dalek props zooming about, belittling the fear factor this is meant to have. For Doctor Who at the time, this was great, for alien invasion films, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Much better than the first movie but still has a cheap TV feel to it.

I would say this is a bit better than the previous non-canon Doctor Who movie. Mostly because the story is just a better one, it keeps you interested longer. Decent production quality as well, although I think I remember thinking the same of the episodes this is based on. However, unforgivable is the lack of the epic ending speech given by William Hartnell in the original episodes. That moment was what made this story so memorable to me.

So deeply set in the early sixties the title itself is a mistake. No attempt to portray the future world apart from lots of silver suits. Typical dalek invades world, doctor saves day plot. No real redeeming features. Of interest to Whoovians but apart from that it's fairly weak.

Doesn't make a lick of goddamned sense. Our heroes bumble about for no reason and with no motivation, the apocalypse is viewed as an inconvenience, the villains are hilariously incompetent (though the mentally deficient human rebels are somehow still outwitted), and the Daleks are annoyingly shrill. Lacks the character of its predecessor, and confuses THINGS HAPPENING with THINGS WE CARE ABOUT constantly. After watching these two movies, why anyone would watch Dr. Who baffles the fuck out of me.

Good fun with cheap but imaginative special FX and a great ending.

This is a war movie. I never liked the style, but even if you do, I don't think that a TV movie intended for kids should be a war movie. Peter Cushing is still marvelous as the First Doctor, but the story is much weaker than in the first movie. Also the Doctor has almost no role in the events. This happens sometimes in the series as well, but there you expect variety between the episodes. I cannot be so forgiving with a dedicated movie to the character. Only recommended to really hard core fans.

It passes time, for sure. It has dated somewhat though. More a curio for existing fans.
