D.L. has some enchantment I can't come over. I happen to have an annual loop for D.L. Barely recognizable mimics , face muscle contractions of the performers -especially Malkovich,Close,Pffeifer- seems incredibly realistic.

The best example of how adaptations should be done. Everything is in the right place, including a delicious performance by Close as the ultimate manipulative, wickedly mean woman you can't help but love.

Arguably one of the most horrifying films ever made. And I'll tell you why: as the post-industrial society continues and fewer and fewer of us really *have* to work to keep the world going and the common man has more and more free time, this is what more and more of the world is going to be like: not the pursuit of art or science or anything cool like that, but a whole lot of "who can sleep with the most women" and "ha ha, I'm a millimeter higher on the pecking order than you are". Great

A film this great will always be relevant - particularly since game playing in affairs of the heart (sometimes for incredibly high stakes) never goes out of style. Brilliantly acted by Glenn Close, John Malkovich & Michelle Pfeiffer. Fabulous screenplay adaptation by Christopher Hampton. You'll laugh hysterically through this but be prepared for the last 15 minutes...

I thought this movie was great, I loved the cruel and unusual ways in which Meretuil and Valmont seemed to love and hate each other at the same time. Suspenseful, dangerous, brilliant, a wicked wild and daring new spin on the classic tale of love and betrayal. Close and Malkovich make a great seductive pair, and the always sexy Michelle Pfeiffer gives a tender performence in a film that soars and shocks.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Every single cast member is perfect and blend perfectly together, so much so that John Malkovich was said to be having an affair with Michelle Pfeiffer during filming.

Deliciously wicked rococo-fun that ends as a moving tragedy of love and jealousy. The period is beautifully rendered to boot, but most importantly the lavish costumes and powdered wicks doesn't overshadow the film's razor sharp wit. A career high-point for Thurman, Close, Pfeiffer and Frears. Malkovich for the world!

Having seen Cruel Intentions first, it's hard not to compare the two. Cruel Intentions is a bit better paced, but Dangerous Liaisons boasts stronger writing and acting, particularly from Glenn Close.

A story told often but no much better. Outstanding director Stephen Fears leads a top of his game Malkovich into this tale of revenge and love. Only ruined slightly by Keanu.

I can hardly think of an adaption of classic literature as compelling and riveting. Glenn Close is stupendously good, and Malkovich almost her equal. In fact, the entire cast is good, as is everything else about this: writing, costumes, scenic design, cinematography, And leave it to a British director to get every nuance of a tale of brutally amoral manipulation exactly right.

I'm a sucker for an over-the-top period piece, and this one qualifies for sure. Malkovich has never been smoother nor Close more sparklingly evil. The twists, turns and manipulations are great fun. But, for a fascinating contrast, watch Valmont -- a...lustier version of the same story and, I think, truer to the spirit of the original intent.

A full recital of misgivings about the casting would run the risk of descending to John Simon-esque rudeness. Let it suffice that Malkovich is not altogether persuasive in the part of an infamous and irresistible roué. Still, the plot alone, a plot about plotters, is sufficiently horrifically fascinating to sustain interest even if you've already read the de Laclos novel, and would still be sufficiently and horrifically so if it were acted with the expressiveness of chess pieces.

Sharply written, brilliantly acted and directed with elegance and finesse, "Dangerous Liaisons" is a deliciously enjoyable examination of malice, lust and manipulation. The interplay between Close and Malkovich is priceless, while Pfeiffer is also very good in a supporting role, and the twists and turns of the plot effectively lead to the unambiguously tragic finale. The film is both terrifically savvy and emotionally impactful and that says a ton right here.

Incredible story about socialite malcontents, with great acting from an exceptional cast. Michelle Pfeiffer and Uma Thurman are absolutely magnificent. Glenn Close is, as usual, scary as hell. Keanu Reeves seemed almost an idiot. John Malconvich in perhaps his best performance. The story is convoluted and complex. An unconventional love story about heinous conquests and self betrayal. A man driven by his ego at the expense of his own true feelings and happiness.

the only thing i took away from this film was that the french nobility were a bunch of idiots that never did anything with their lives except lie around the house and have sex with each other. also, john malkovich is far too creepy to be in any type of romantic role - far too creepy. seeing him flop around on top of michelle pfeiffer and uma thurman is just wrong.

I was very disappointed with this. The women were OK; Glenn Close is no beauty but had a great deal of poise, while Michelle Pfeiffer dithered and swooned convincingly. But John Malkovich is awful here - I thought he seemed lazy, sloppy and utterly without charm. I can see where if I'd seen this as a teenager I would have found it titillating and really loved it, but now that I'm almost 40 it seemed childish and indulgent rather than the cutting commentary on society it should be.

Fantastic production design with some wild casting misfires and a script that lacks some sort of intangible bite - when it should be quick, sharp and witty, it's slow and not nearly as clever as it thinks it is. It looks too damn good for me not to rate it well, but Thurman, Reeves, Malkovich, and Pfeiffer seem wildly out of place. Close is the only one who really fits her role. To anyone who enjoyed this, but thought it was lacking I would highly recommend 'The Draughtsman's Contract'.

An immensely clever, ruthless black comedy that spirals into tragedy in the last act. Malkovich and Close clearly love these roles and really bite into them. Pfeiffer is quite good ... Reeves is not. I suspect his fairly naturalistic acting style cannot handle very theatrical dialogue ... he's awkward and wooden, but thankfully his part is really small.

Dangerous Liaisons was before my time but it was a movie cover that I remembered vividly at the video store. I'm glad that I waited until now to watch it because I don't think I would have been mature enough to enjoy it before now. I would not have been able to look past the costuming and the setting to see the amazing story contained in this movie. I do love the costuming and the setting but it's the characters that are so richly developed throughout the story that made me love this film.
