A darkly comedic travelogue of the underworld - set against an all-too-familiar urban backdrop of used car lots, gated communities, strip malls, and the U.S. Capitol. And populated with a contemporary cast of reprobates, including famous - and infamous - politicians, presidents, popes, pimps. And the Prince of Darkness himself (imdb)

Having just read the book, I found this updated version of Dante's walk through Hell quite enjoyable. The puppetry was good, although sometimes the background art almost distracts from the foreground action. I think I would have preferred a more awed Dante, rather than this world-weary one who always aims for the cheap joke. Well-known lantern-head guy (Bertan) is NOT here, and Ugolino only makes a brief appearance. I'm still holding out hope for the two sequels.

This was the best and most brutal anime i've watched since "Ninja Scroll". Stunning style! Can't wait until the launch of the video game.

You know that guy you hang out with who is always cracking jokes which are so flat that they end up making your pathetic attempts at humor come off as comedy gold? Well, this is what happens when you give that guy some construction paper, a pair of scissors, and the Cliff's Notes for Dante's Inferno. There's a place in hell for people like you...and I'll be waiting!

I will say I basically enjoyed this movie. The animation is cool and I like that an adaptation was attempted. I think we might have to accept the fact that the Divine Comedy is too large and complex to ever be adapted properly. The original itself was a life's-work kind of deal and any adaptation would have to be a pretty big piece of work as well. Any partial adaptation could probably not be considered an adaptation at all.

A truly unique and brilliantly realized modern retelling of the first (and by far, most interesting) part of Dante Alighieri's poem. The modern setting works well, as does some of the satire. My biggest quarrel with it, is that the medieval world view of the poem isn't really commented on - something that seems odd for a movie made in a time, where most of us would qualify for one oree several places in that particular hell...
