The reveal rarely ever lives up to the hype but the visual effects were amazing, and I didn't think this was a bland picture. Sure, it doesn't really stray too far from the type of plot you'd find within this genre, but I thought there were some interesting ideas and some good fight scenes. Everytime the Alchemist showed up it was entertaining. Most of the music was good but there was a moment or two where it was wonky.

The movie is so-so but the cinematography is truly brilliant.

Bizarre, and quite the looker at times, if somewhat stilted.

I liked the sets and environmental work. The story then again was messy and uninteresting. Cameraman was too close to skin for my taste.

Don't be scared away by the low reviews. I'm a huge fan of the visuals - should have waiting for 1080p to come out before making this flick. Comical acting and dialogue, pretty good story line. The filming angles can be quite annoying at times though, and doesn't hold much replay value.

It hooked me by something deep inside my soul. Gorgeous visuals. Dynamic. Music. I turn into a little kid every time I watch it.

Some interesting visuals, but an overall bland picture. I've never been a Gérard Depardieu fan.

It started out good, but I hate it when I guess the whole plot and the 'murderer' before the film has come to an end. I didn't like that electric guitar soundtrack at end, too. The rest was nice.

Loved this movie. Although a little vague and hard to follow it's very original!! Must see.

Hasn't aged well at all. Not that great of a story. Messy camera work with many close-up shots aren't my cup of tea unless they are done really well. And did my ears deceive me, or did I hear the bad guy make a cheetah growl during the end fight.......?

Jean-Christophe Grange wrote this, and it shows. Confusing camerawork and script, but watchable as a historical fantasy thriller.

Good cinematography, acting and music. While the plot isn't very unique, the storytelling is solid and well paced. The action is also solid. Overall it's an enjoyable and interesting movie that does some unique things.

Bizarre but interesting. I just love the historical serial killers. There simply ain't enough stories about them.
