There's something in this house... Something ancient and dark that remains still, hidden and silent. It can only wait, having been concealed in the shadows for years. In fact, its milieu is darkness. Only in it can it show itself and move. It even takes its name: DARKNESS. It's lived here since someone tried to call it, more than forty years ago. Because this house hides a secret, a terrible past, an inconceivably evil act... Seven children, faceless people, a circle that must be completed. And blood, lots of blood... (imdb)

What are wrong with these people!? 1. Mom! Son gets cut in throat while sleeping. Dad goes crazy with knife while cutting potatoes. Oh, there's nothing wrong... Let's cut dad so he can breathe! No, I can't do it! Wahhh! 2. Son! Knows everyting but refuses to talk (not that mom would listen anyway). 3. Daughter! Realizes that family is crazy, but gosh-darnit, loves 'em all anyway. 4. Boyfriend! Is able to learn everything about the house/cults in less than a day! Smartie-pants!

There's a reason that Darkness sat on studio shelves for more than two years after it was shot. That reason is that, regardless of how long it went through post-production, no matter how much cleverness went into trying to save it, it was a completely doomed project. No trickery would be able to fix what was completely broken from the get-go. This is a barely coherent, terribly docile, waste of time and talent, that you have absolutely no reason to see. This is a truly awful movie.

One or two unexpected twists towards the end can't compensate for the obnoxious directorial style. Each "scary" scene is telegraphed so much by the shaky camera, spasmodic editing, intrusive music, etc, that it completely sucks the tension out of what is happening on screen. Also, why is everything (including the radio, TV and newspapers) in English, and since when does Spain have a monsoon season?

Somehow brighter and more vibrant than the new Little Mermaid remake.

I actually found it genuinely scary, but also pretty stupid. So while I enjoyed it I couldn't really recommend it.

I liked this horror. It;s not inovative, not a great acting or directing, stor too shallow but one big thing - it ends with no happyend. all dead!

Lots of familiar stuff from other horror flicks, but what a nice package! I adore the editing. Anna Paquin is a grown up, but still has got the spark in the eye; good Anna! There's a lot of small details that makes this story brilliant. Extra minus points for cheap scary effects. Three old ladies were also kind of useless extra actors.

Predictable and disappointing horror. It was good enough to finish, but that's about it.

Pretty good for the supernatural/ghost sub-genre. Well filmed keeping many scenes dark and not overly revealing things early. If you can get into it, you should be drawn into the whole creepiness factor. The acting was all well done especially Olin and still young Paquin. It could have even been a great film if they decided to have content to up the rating to more than PG.

i loved this film. but you ll waste the film if you watch it at home or a portable player.. darkness is the main actor.please give him a play area and turn off the lights. there must be the screen enlightenment only. in the film clock is always ticking to the estimated end but enjoy the claustrophobia with the rain scenes and ofcourse darkness. i loved the light and shadow plays of the director..

Slowly builds, too slowly for some, and if you're paying attention you'll probably figure out most things before the big reveal; but I liked it quite a bit. I think it would have been even better if it hadn't been cut to get a PG-13 rating, maybe there's a director's cut or unrated version somewhere.

3+ might want to skip this one :: It has too many flaws for me to really give it more than a 2.5, but I thought the ending was great and bumped it up a full point
