Ummmm, what my wife said. Yes, virtually in complete agreement with her. It's a great premise, but only an OK movie. I think the thing that really hurt it, is/was the lack of a Billy Mitchell-type of villian for our "hero" to play off of. McArthur is ostensibly the villian, but there's no reason to hate the guy. And although I consider myself to be a pretty open-minded guy, these people still sound a bit nuts. I mean, hey, if they dig it...cool. But it all still seems a little silly to me.

A movie about live action roleplaying which left me laughing until I almost cried. While there are a few feeble attempts to make this sympathetic, I felt it was an excellent comedy.

A sort of sadly sweet look at a group of people who use a fantasy roleplaying game as an escape from their mostly miserable lives. More power to them. It isn't great but it seems honest.

Entertaining for about 15 minutes, but once you get over the shock that people actually do this, it's kind of dull. Didn't make me think or offer me a new perspective, which to me is what a documentary should do. Overall, pretty boring. P.S. Remind me not to go hiking in Maryland.

The film's production value outdoes the in-game production enormously. The amount of helicopters, cranes, and steady cams used in the making of this film is incredible...and it makes the battle scenes super epic. Like the great subculture docs, we get endearing characters, heart, humor, joy, and heartbreak...unfortunately, Darkon itself is just not that exciting for those watching at home.

The players r remarkably upfront about their unhappiness in the real world & their resulting need2 live in fantasy. No doubt they saw the filmmakers had no interest in mocking them. Instead they allow the audience2 better appreciate their fantasy world by enhancing their scenes of lived-out fantasies w/ a suitably fantastic score& stylized, immersive camerawork. The results r 2 narratives:1 entirely fictional w/ real-world parallels & another entirely real, that's sympathetic, but brutally honest
