Das Fest der schwarzen Tulpe
Alexander Dumas published The Black Tulip in 1850. The movie, Das Fest der schwarzen Tulpe, was advertised as being based upon the novel. The book's hero is Cornelius Van Baerl, and as he spends most of the novel in prison, there is very little physical action in the plot. Therefore, more action scenes and other characters were probably introduced into the film script to make it more saleable to movie audiences.

A Alexandre Dumas novel adapted by a German studio. And we all know German silent cinema was a thing of beauty. They do a good job with the characters, getting some vibrant scenes from the actors, but struggle to get the story at the same level. Doesn't get as exciting as the plot suggested. Didn't help that I didn't have proper subtitles for this one. Might be still worth a look for those specifically interested in either German movies from this era or movie adaptations of Dumas' works.
