There's some good use of location and imagery here that you'd expect from Fritz Lang. The story structure was interesting and help me stay invested in this otherwise unremarkable story. A solid if a bit unremarkable silent film.

It's nice that this starts in medias res, since the atmospheric flight into the mountains is one of the film's best parts, and things get more than a bit sillier once we're exposed to the contrived story behind it all. Still, an interesting early film from Lang, with decent performances and very nice use of the alpine setting.

Drama between characters is good though it develops slowly through a first half that provides no answers to why anyone is doing anything or what's going on. It comes together, to a point, in the second half, though details which might make it a more coherent, fulfilling whole are missing. Broadly, it's a look at love and how limits and boundaries to love don't necessarily limit a relationship but rather mutual met expectations can allow it to grow. There's also a guy throwing rocks off a mountain
