Rather good Japanese production considering it was in the middle of the war. A little economical as it doesn't rely too much on battle scenes, but of course there are a few of those too, which helps shape this samurai story quite nicely. Definitely one for those curious about war-time cinema from the land of the rising sun.

A well-done and well-acted film. The film takes place over a number of years but the runtime is really short and that's the biggest complaint I have about this and many similar films. These films always feel like CliffsNotes version of a much better and grander story.
