Married, middle-aged and with children is hardly a recipe for romance, but Tina Fey and Steve Carrell are determined to keep the spark alive in this Shawn Levy-helmed comedy about a date night gone horribly awry. Joining Fey and Carrell in this ensemble cast film are Mark Wahlberg, who plays a securities expert, James Franco as a slightly slow con man and Leighton Meester as the couple's babysitter.

Although the plot seems scrambled and unrealistic, Date Night succeeds in entertaining its audience. While this is not the movie to see if expecting non-stop laughter, Tina Fey and Steve Carrell have amazing chemistry and prove their comedic genius by turning a less than stellar script into an amusing, decent one.

A surprisingly enjoyable comedy, Date Night is so great for a few reasons, but the most important is the cast. Seriously, the cast is amazing. Of course there's Steve and Tina, but it's James Franco, Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis that really steal the show. The trailers made it look like this was going to suck but I really enjoyed it.

Some pretty good humor interspersed in with some pretty stupid or silly parts in an overall flat movie. The scene with them is the strip club was so lame they needed crutches for their crutches. I had flashbacks to Jerry Lewis only he was probably better.

Better than what I was expecting considering the blandness of the trailers. The action scenes are fun and never really cliched (and if it is, it's for humor). Carell and Fey are great together. The jokes don't always work, and very few are hysterical but some humor is almost always present. It could have been a lot better but it's not a bad movie to watch on an actual date night because everyone can enjoy it.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell have excellent comedic chemistry and the script provides plenty of opportunities for Tina Fey in particular to shine, but it is also a little too niche for anyone but a middle-aged married couple to fully enjoy.

Two great comic actors get stuck with a miserably bad script. The scenes never turn, there's no irony, the thriller plot is uninteresting, and the hero saves the day while forgetting to tell the audience his plan. The idea that comic actors can take a rubbish script and improvise it into greatness is a lie: a peculiarly American lie. Getting louder and crazier doesn't make it funnier. Movie-making by numbers, it's the later Rush Hour movies without all the martial arts.

'Date Night' is everything its trailers don't make it appear to be--a hugely entertaining, rowdy, wacky slapstick film featuring two comic geniuses. Steve Carell and Tina Fey, two major stars of the two biggest sitcoms on NBC, have an exciting chemistry that carries this goofy, mainstream film to glorious heights. The two make an unstoppable pair when Director Shawn Levy stops the action in favor of their witty banter and improvisation.

Not much in the way of a story line, but there are some laughs (Taxi scene, although my date didn't agree). Carrell and Fey are hit and miss, but when its a hit, hilariatyfollows. The "Shirt it Up!" scenes with Wahlberg and Franco/Carrell's argument is good too. Now my date and I wondered why our dates can't be this exciting, but I think that is because this would never happen in anyone's real life. Hey date maybe this will serve as a reminder to start closing the freakin drawers too.

Carrel and Fey make good enough leads that I only wish the plot wasn't so dull. The numbingly boring trailer and commercials cut to the punch on the story centered around a misunderstanding with thuggish mafiosos about as interesting as pushy meter maids, while the actual interplay of the married, insecure couple outside of the horrificly derivative story seems so genuine and funny. it made me wish for a plot centered on the more surreal day to day challenges that do justice to the talent.

You would think this would be the ultimate match made in heaven yet somehow it falls short of being the comedic masterpiece we were all hoping it would. Carell and Fey deliver a few laugh out loud moments but ultimately I think there were too many big name players cast in one film. Comedy is supposed to be about the one liners not the amount of a-listers that are willing to make cameo appearences. Get it together hollywood comedy you are slowly becoming something distasteful and boring.

Date Night isn't really worth watching. At 88 minutes, it's overlong, suffers from pacing problems and isn't very funny. The cast is good, and the cameos throughout are almost good enough to keep you engaged, but sadly, it doesn't succeed in being an entertaining film. Carell and Fey have good enough chemistry together though, and given a better project, I could definitely see them having a successful comedy on their hands.

A funny comedy with Tina Fey and Steve Carell. This is one of those "mistaken identity" comedies. I laughed at a few parts, especially the car chase scene. This movie also had excellent cameos with Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Leighton Meester, Mark Ruffalo and Ray Liotta. If that wasn't enough William Fichtner was also great as the shady D.A. The film had a lot of star power and some good jokes but it was basically just an average comedy with some action sprinkled in. Still a good time though.

Steve Carell and Tina Fey are so incredibly likable as people and comedians that it actually pained me to watch them be forced so far out of their respective elements. Five minutes after watching it, I can barely recall anything that had me laughing, though I know I was, at least part of the time. Fey and Carrell played off each other well, and I'm sure if they did a show at an improv club it'd be a great time, but there's the rest of a movie here to fill out, and it's done in a pretty rote fashion; for a movie about breaking free this is all pretty standard. Fichtner's DA kind of steals the show at the end, beamed in from some refreshingly kinky dimension.

I'll pop it to an 80 because this was my first real exposure to Tina Fey; I'm not an SNL fan and I never really followed her stand-up career. So just having her on screen for most of the movie really bumped it up. Throw in brief-but-excellent showings from James Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Mila Kunis, and the ageless wonder Ray Liotta, and another in a string of utterly fantastic performances from Mr. Carell, you have the makings of one of the best comedies since Hangover.

Date Night recruits a lot of top-caliber talent, and they all do super well here; the premise is also a great recipe for a light-hearted, silly comedy. Surprisingly enjoyable effort here. Was expecting a bland action-comedy with lots of fish-out-of-water jokes. And that's exactly what's there but it's rather witty and doesn't get boring. Takes maybe too long to hit the set piece gags between explaining the plot but the pacing is good and while the plot is perhaps a bit far-fetched it's kept light-hearted and silly - even avoiding the standard third-act "things get serious" shift. Feels edited to be family-friendly though, unfortunate!

'Date Night' isn't much of a plot-driven thriller. It doesn't surprise you much. It's the typical formula of crooked cops and mistaken identity. The main characters are two unlikely, but believable heroes. They're the every-couple. When things go south, they react as anyone would, but with the wit and charisma you would expect from the Fey and Carrell. The laughs are well earned as the Fosters react completely in character, even with the short first act to get you familiar with their mannerisms.

Mildly amusing comedy that makes scant use of the very decent cast. The premise is OK; pinching a table reservation at an expensive restuarant, and Fey and Carrell's comedic talents are best utilised in this "dialogue only" setting where there is little action. But to be honest, from that point on, the whole thing descends into farce, and a number of the cameos are ludicrously worthless, including Wahlberg, Kunis, Ruffalo and Fichtner who are capable of MUCH better than this.

But then there's all that "crazy stuff," as Levy calls it. I'll call it what it is: perverse. Once things get rolling, verbal references to sex are constant, and we hear about anal sex, masturbation, threesomes, foursomes, S&M paraphernalia and prostitution. We see a strip club--and Claire trading in her evening gown for a corset to join her husband on the stripper pole. (pluggedin.com)
