I just can't escape the thought that it was unnecessary. It seems quite self-indulgent on Gervais' part, which is fine, but the result is pretty mediocre and somewhat tarnishes the ending of The Office. You can see all the plot points coming, even when they're not earned and don't make sense. There were 3 or 4 moments that made me properly laugh, but a bunch more than that that didn't. I wanted to like it a lot more than I did, but it's an okay way to spend 90 minutes.

It takes a special talent to write songs that a so stunningly terrible but still oddly listenable. Also, this is an endless display of the sadness that is David Brent's life. If you wanted a supporting cast like he had in The Office, they aren't here. Just David. And pain. Endless, endless pain and sadness.

Not sure why this didn't do better. Gervais has done a great job of building a compelling storyline around a character that theoretically should wear out his welcome as the star of a 90 minute feature (w/ no will-they/won't they couple or goofy sidekick to help him out). He finds new ways to wring laughs out of painfully awkward situations. His songs are also catchy & hilarious & one has to wonder why no one in the film appreciates him as some kind of Andy Kaufman-esque performance art genius.

The continuing adventures of David Brent misses the point of the original OFFICE series - that it's the well-stocked supporting cast's responses to Brent which are endearing and relatable, rather than Brent himself. There is also not quite enough material here for a feature film, so repetition starts to become an issue. However, the film does provide enough squirm inducing, uncomfortable moments of Gervais' particular brand of non-PC humour which makes it worth watching for OFFICE completists.

Plods a bit and telegraphs too many jokes but it's ok. Irksome how the final few were spent explaining the whole Brent joke like we were idiots.

Gervais and Merchant willingly ending the very successful "The Office" after just two seasons (plus the two specials) and not really revisiting it ever since is a feat. More than a decade later Gervais slips back into Brent: different premise, environment and supporting roles; same insane amount of cringe. It's fun and quick-paced and Brent having a few more years on his back seems to have changed him slightly, though Gervais doesn't really have many, if any, new observations to make about him.

I couldn't manage to watch the British The Office, so no surprise I could manage this one.

I loved The Office back in the day, but this one was kind of painful to get through. There are a couple of moments, but too many that play much worse in today’s world. The attitude of the other characters towards Brent’s ignorance seems too harsh at first and then they are suddenly magically OK with it.

Never imagined I would witness Gervais succumb to this. Just a reminder that even the mightiest eventually end up needing to be reviewed and slapped back into reality (preferably by Merchant). This is what a little taste of Hollywood does to you.

David Brent: Life on the Road is an unnecessary but harmlessly welcome spin off to follow over a decade on from The Office. I love the character and I love The Office, but the supporting characters where integral to the success of the show. Whereas here Ricky Gervais has to singlehandedly carry the humour. The cringeworthy songs and one liners are prime David Brent and there would have been enough content to fill a decent one hour TV special. But as a feature film this is somewhat forgettable.

Not nearly as funny as the series (which had consistently cracked me up). Surprisingly well said bits about "wanting to be famous so that people like you", though. But there isn't really much of that either to make the movie great in that regard. There are some good-hearted scenes and the finale is wrapped up calmly and decently. But I watched too big a part of this movie not laughing at all and I really didn't expect that, so the movie was a disappointment in that respect.

It's existance is questionable. We certainly didn't need Gervais to create a film that simply explains the untold jokes of the series over and over again. It misses the support cast and grim subtlety that made the original series so good, but even with its considerable drawbacks it's funny enough to enjoy and recommend.

Enjoyable - equally cringe inducing and funny. It would also work as a Christmas special on TV.

Cringe and more cringe as we witness the pathetic life of a sad, sad man....and I wouldn't have it any other way! The songs are so bad that they're great.

Merchant's absence is glaring here as Gervais takes Brent on an utterly unnecessary and instantly forgettable solo project to nowhere. It's not terrible but it is pointless, with barely a single memorable scene and feeling distinctively less amusing than The Office did 15 years previously. New characters add nothing than to over-explain gags, and even Brent himself seems to be morphing from cringeworthy into just plain irritating. Fans will watch it once, but very unlikely a second time.
