Colin Farrell has been on a hot streak as of late, choosing roles thst seem tsilor made for his fiesty style of acting. Dead Man Down is highlighted by the element of romance in a non traditional way. With top of the line performances from Farrell, Rapace and Howard this movie was destined to be s gritty revenge flick with a very important message.

There was interesting plot underneath. I liked the multi language setup. But seriously, Collin Farrell is so unstable actor. Sometimes he's good, sometimes just average. That story belonged to the latter one group. And in the end it was just an usual American shoot them all story. There was a spark but Farrell was wrong guy to carry it. Terrence should have more screen time.

A solid thriller made more interesting by the unique romance between Farrell and Rapace. Refreshing.

The set up is intriguing, Rapace is good. The interesting themes on grief and retribution are wasted towards the end.

Quite solid but the ending. Can't say I've never seen something like this though.

Pretty generic, but ok enough. Rapace and Farrell are pretty underwhelming here and just plain unbelievable. The story seemed a little forced, but it did work. There's not much else to say about it, good or bad.

Competent flick about revenge and scars. Builds to an ending that never comes how you expect. Probably could have done most things a little better, but still rather engaging.

A ton of potential that it doesn't live up to. Competent and enjoyable but also slow and generic. If it went back into the editing room something really good could come from it, but as it stands it never gets as ethereal as the trailer.

It's often said there are no more original stories. And, yes, every story has a beginning, middle, and end. But as an absolute rule that's about where it ends. What film is like The Matrix? What about Watchmen? Or even V for Vendetta? Dead Man Down is another unique film; it's a revenge film; but it spins this story of revenge in a way I haven't quite seen before. Colin Farrell is an actor who delivers an Oscars' worth of drama even in his action rolls; and Dead Man Down is one of his best yet.

****************** mild spoilers ****************** Dull. You can see all the plot twists coming from a mile away, which is a rather big problem as the movie doesn't have many other qualities either.

Dead Man Down is a competent thriller with a couple of big action scenes that really drag it down. Is it worth seeing? I'm not really sure. You can do a lot better -- watching the entire Dragon Tattoo trilogy would be a better use of your time, for example (even if Oplev only directed the first installment) -- but you can also do way worse. There are a couple of really terrific scenes in Dead Man Down, and seeing its honesty about its subject matter makes me admire it.

Oh, blecch. If this doesn't turn out to be the most inert, lifeless, deadly dull-looking movie of the year, then...then we're gonna be in for a bad year, I guess.

The whole message about how unhealthy revenge is might've been better served had more than one or two token bad guys actually lived through the thing. Victor might not have needed his vengeance anymore, but audiences apparently do. (pluggedin.com)

***mild spoiler alert*** Nice set-up, only to be let down in the end by the climax and mini-epilogue. Starts with tons of promise, then turns Rambo-like w the protagonist overcoming unbelievable odds.

It's not outright terrible, but is far too inconsistant and dull to be worthy of note. None of Farrell, Howard or Rapace really drag this film from its dreariness. To be fair they're not helped by an uneven script, poor pacing and flimsy story, whereby characters motivations are questionable and/or perplexingly stupid. Oplev does show some moments of class behind the camera, but ultimately "Dead Man Down" strives for the neo-noir and simply lacks the class, mystery and focus to pull it off.

There is nothing really spectacular about this film. There are plenty of alright moments but nothing really makes this movie stand out. The actors are fine but the script is average. Overall I would say skip this film.

Once DEAD MAN DOWN sorts out its own plot and stops trying to be mysterious, it's not too bad; Niels Oplev's direction is inventive (even if it can't hide how poor the writing is), and the final showdown has a great, awesomely insane moment that goes a ways towards redeeming it. Noomi Rapace (or maybe Isabelle Huppert) makes the best impression in the cast. The experience was elevated by a fellow audience member, whose commentary was brilliant ("Nice socks. But they don't match the shirt").

Farrell and Rapace's relationship was oddly beautiful; two lost souls each twisted up in their own torment suddenly finding solace in one another could have made for an incredible story! However, the plot slows things down in a lot of bad ways, the buildup to Farrell being discovered by the gang isn't as suspenseful as it should have been, and the final confrontation was good but there should have been more to this movie than there was.

The plot and characters of this lurid dramatic thriller are total genre-driven melodrama, yet stars Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace extend it some fortuitous grace and feeling. But while Oplev's low-key direction gives it a European feel and the fine cast keeps it watchable throughout, the film is burdened by ridiculous, fractured, and just plain half-witted details and plot turns.

The dreary atmosphere and depressed performances are nice companions to a beautifully shot film. Unfortunately, the not-so-special screenplay is somewhat predictable and often bad.
