Low budget vampire film with a weak looking and acting vampire and a complete lack of fangs. A short run time, quick pace and a noirish feel kept things watchable.

It's Mondo Zucco time. Typical but fun Poverty Row outing.

Rating takes into account the age/time of the film. By modern comparison it would be about 15

Was going to give this a slightly passing grade when I mistakenly assumed it was filmed BEFORE the 1931 Dracula just for historical value in terms of how bad vampire films were before they found a formula, It's easy to assume b/c it's deteriorated so badly the picture & sound quality are awful (even on TCM) & the story is so simplistic, camera so stationary, & style so sparse it feels like a play. But the fact that this was made 10 years after is inexcusable. Most banal vampire ever.

"Dr Clayton, is something troubling you?"...lol Zucco is the whole show here, and as usual he is a heckuva lotta fun.

A very "on the way out" type picture for Mary Carlisle, barely noticeable in her final picture before retiring. She could not match the more charismatic George Zucco, who took up the screen two-times over in a dual roles of good and evil. While the plot had it's promising sides for a cheap creeper, it doesn't really become very thrilling. Sam Newfield was directing, you know, so expectations shouldn't be very high. Actually one should be surprised it was as good as it nearly was.
