Dead in a Week: Or Your Money Back

Amusing comedy is not especially distinguished or original in its execution (and owes more than a little to IN BRUGES), but it's terrific to see Wilkinson in a lead role which combines droll deadpan with a genuine poignancy as his ageing hitman comes to terms with the end of his own life. Barnard and Mavor are fine as the youthful protagonists and Eccleston is great fun as the sinister heavy. Plenty of funny, clever lines in a thoroughly enjoyable comedy.

This is very much a dark comedy film - notan entirely original one but it has some amusing moments, awkward scenes and interesting dialogue. Its not poignant, its quirky, cringey and with a bit of action thrown in, it has a slight comic book feel to it (an adult comic book) at times. Not bad, not great but not bad. It reminded me somewhat of the Simon Pegg film, A Fantastic Fear of Everything. I wouldn't especially recommend it but its alright.

Partly funny, partly dark but doesn't offer much. I felt emphaty for all the characthers except for the leading role which is a serious problem. But it's not because of the acting; it's about the development. Finally, falling action and ending were so slow and simple that I wish it had a different finale. Yet; worth it.

I enjoyed Dead in a Week despite its flaws, mainly for its flippant, dark humour. There's a lot going on in the film to fill its 90 minute runtime, though at times it still drags. Thematically, the film juxtaposes William's (Bernard) desire for death with Leslie's (Wilkinson - who is great here) desire to keep working, thereby ascribing a sense of a meaning to life. Of course William meets a girl and changes his mind, padding the film with clichés and a lack of chemistry.

Had its moments. I do enjoy the dark humor, but it was mostly dull.

The actors do a good job in this movie . Unfortunately the script is subpar. This movie does not work when it is trying to be funny and it does not work as a drama either. The poor script weights this film down. Overall this film is disappointing.
