Deadbeat at Dawn

Sometimes a movie looks and feels like something that if you got it together, you could've done yourself. But you didn't, and you don't. Sometimes a movie looks like anybody could've done it but then takes it to such extremes that even if you did have it together, you never would've dared to push that far. This is the latter, and it is an immense joy to witness. The last twenty minutes are off the rails, real lives in danger, chaotic mayhem of the finest sort. Kudos

This no-budget indie action/gang movie is like a punk rock 80's reboot/sequel to "The Warriors"(1979), except extremely violent, super gritty, and set in Dayton, Ohio. While "Bone Crusher's" epic "I hate people, man" speech itself alone is worth seeking out, genre and indie fans should both appreciate all the extreme and dangerous things done throughout by Jim Van Bebber in the sake of 'making a movie'.

A highly entertaining made-for-nothing slice of genre film heaven. The acting is often poor and the story is borderline-irrelevant, but the action sequences, some clever chunks of dialogue, and sheer dedication to craft lift this one above your standard independent genre film.

Despite its many obvious flaws, this punches well above its very low-budget weight and is actually rather entertaining, and occasionally surprising. The sort of grim, violent nonsense I occasionally crave.

Usually the limitations of a zero-budget movie are something the viewer needs to get past. Here, they actually help relay the film's greatest strengths. With the exception of a few obtuse, heavy-handed attempts at social commentary, this is really a remarkable effort on all counts. If you miss the days when an action movie would actually make you yell "Holy shit!" several times, then you need to watch this.

Inspired trash. Loved it!

Gritty as fuck low budget actioner with a pretty good soundtrack (underutilised in my opinion) and jaw dropping moments of ultraviolence.
