Honestly not an outstanding execution of this musical by the actors or director. The script is beautiful and the emo melodrama can be much but fits the high school setting. Good theme of being honest and interested in others (not just selfish). A good watch but could it have been better?

The songs are few and far on between and the best one is at the very beginning, and the plot was corny and full of awkward scenes. Juliane Moore and Amy Adams were awesome, and some other side characters also provided some depth I enjoyed, but that can't really counteract the physical cringe brought by the trope "big lie risking to be revealed at any moment", which is pretty central to the plot. This made it very difficult for me to power through and finish the film.

Ben Platt might be too old to play a high schooler, but he's the exact right age to play my new sleep paralysis demon

Not nearly as entertainingly terrible as I've been led to believe. Sure, Ben Platt's hairline is a bit too high, but he doesn't look entirely out of place in this movie high school. Overall it's fine, and I actually enjoyed quite a few of the songs.

This film adaptation leaves one with the impression the musical is about a 40-year-old high school student delivering mediocre musical performances. Don't be fooled. The source material is so much better than what was put together on film.

Watched it comfortably stoned on a plane, which is probably the only way I could've gotten through the whole thing. I had a good enough time laughing at how bad it is, but in retrospect I just can't get past its moral failings. How can someone make suicide such a central component of their film's premise and ignore even the most basic ethical commitments to their (young, impressionable) audience? It's an astoundingly irresponsible piece of #SuicideContent.

A lot of people didn't like this movie for a multitude of reasons: from non-teenage actors playing teens to a slow and long buildup. What I think this movie's biggest flaw is the controversial topic. Though you understand where the lead character is coming from, It's really hard to get behind and root for him. The whole movie you're just kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. The music was very good, and I thought all of the performances were super solid. I give 6 zoloft pills out of 10

There seems to be a lot of division over what people think about this movie and…I do get that. It’s founded around a lie, and it often toes the line between a selflessness…and selfishness, and with a theme consistent of suicide, some people may not like that. But I believe it has heart and brings hope. It just doesn’t always go the best route.

They should've lit this guy like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now he is disgustingly old looking for this part. When hes in the car with his mom it looked like Stepbrothers. All the teens are wearing slip on shoes because they're cool, Evan wears them because his arthritis flare ups make it hard to tie the laces. That old chestnut where you try to fix a misunderstanding but next thing you know its all" I tried I got nervous and sang them a ballad about fucking their son in an apple orchard.
