Japan has a knack for the extreme, so it's disappointing how there aren't more gambling thriller anime. You take what you can get there, but Death Billiards is top-notch in any case. A part of the Young Animator Training Project, this 25-minute short surprises with how much it can pack in such a modest amount of time and is possibly the highlight of 2013's Anime Mirai. A real trip that begins with mysteries you'll be guessing about until the end. Naturally comes recommended.

This was a great watch but the predictably ambiguous ending prevented me from giving it a perfect score.

This was a nice, pretty distraction but that's all it was. It was not satisfying nor was it all that entertaining.

ASIDE IMPORTANT - Later extended into an animated series called Death Parade which develops (and answers) some of the questions a sole watch of DB may invoke - it is often recommended to watch between 2 & 7 (NO MORE!!) eps of DP then DB then back to DP. At a guess I'd say all of the 4 reviews here are based on a sole watch. A deeper anime, not the usual frivolous kind. 'Modern' animation and well done.
