First time a movie/series involving death notes doesn't remake original manga. One appreciates the new story, the prologue mini-series and the first 2/3 of the movie are quite decent, but really, I don't have a clue of what the hell happened the last 30 minutes, twist after twist... It's certainly better than the 3 previous live-action movies, but has not much value by itself and the end is a mess. The best is shinigami Arma design.

Ay caramba! so boring and pointless.

Doesn't do justice to the Death Note storyline, or its entire enterprise for that matter. Rather strong production, but a lukewarm story which is even less interesting than if it actually were a do-over instead of this "sequel". With an American remake coming up, you might say that it's time to dismiss Death Note altogether. On screen, just stick to the animated series (and listen to its soundtrack!). Nothing beats that.
