Hold the phone, what happens to Trejo that turns him into Ian McShane. I want that origin story not this stupid thing.

A direct-to-DVD sequel to a dumb action movie remake reminiscent of Mario Kart. Can't really expect much.

I liked this movie better when it was called 'Death Race'. Seriously, they made the same goddamn movie! The shitty production values, washed up actors and lack of anything cool makes the previous one look like a cinematic masterpiece in comparison. I think a good one/third of the movie is in slo-mo. Amazing.

Ok so we all knew Death Race 2 wasn't going to make sense, but this is just a horrible screenplay, even considering it's a sequel to Death Race. It's as though the writers of this screenplay didn't bother watching the first film. There isn't even an actual ending. Bright spots are the set design, chase cinematography and stunt driving -- all excellent. But without even a single decent character (other than the Mexican Jew) or plot element, it's hard to have a positive opinion of this film.

Garbage script and almost wholly unbelievable acting (Trejo was a bright spot), but the film delivers what was expected: stupid action.

I've missed the turbomushroom, the red turtle shell and the banana peel!

Even watching this film in Spanish with Portuguese subtitles, not understanding much of either, i still knew what was happening and how it was going to end.

Lousy sequel to the edgy and extreme original film. This film has the violence, but lacks the ability to pose questions while portraying it. It also lacks the coolness, and overall is not very well acted, and not well edited.

Where the first movie was awesome at times, this one just hapenned to be a macho-flick in which they tried to cram a story and a load of action (and they failed trying).

Criminal that doesn't want to hurt anyone. Then in a nice fast car he can't get away from the police. I knew in the first 5 minutes this movie would suck.

Takes a long time to get to the actual death racing, doesn't actually have an ending.

Pitifully bad prequel (not a sequel despite the title) that lacks all the elements that made the first such dumb fun. The production values are far lower, there's hardly any racing, and the lack of Statham kills it.

Dumb action movie that's a guilty pleasure to watch. Also damn Luke Goss is a terrible actor.

Death Race 2 is more of the same, even though it's slightly more enjoyable than its predecessor, in large part because it mixes things up and does it with a sense of humor. It assembles a strong cast of talent, and despite the low budget, doesn't feel like a cheap effort, even though many of the bigger names don't get as much screen time as you'd hope for. The action is just fine, and it's varied, which helps it stay fresh.

[Unrated] - A prequel with a less repetitive and better plot, a decent enough support and a quality eyecandy-upgrade in Lauren.C. Downsides are a horrible weak lead and race-scenes that are even shittier than last time around, so overall it's about the same enjoyment-wise. *Preview*: #13#, exp-2*, popcorn, 'pt1', Lauren.C/6, R2.

I like that it's a prequel but it's still incredibly stupid and Luke Gross is horrible. I did like seeing Robin Shou in another movie, tho I wish it was a better one than this.

Strictly speaking, this is not a sequel, but a prequel, something which allows a better distribution of the low budget with which it was made. That's the reason why Death Race 2 leaves the stunts for the ending (with one exception), while it skilfully uses the first hour to establish the origin of the death races, as well as the motivations from the villains and the anti-hero. And I have to say that the final result is a very entertaining experience.

One of the worst kind of sequels there is: a terrible follow up to an already bad movie. The first Death Race was bad, but in a unique way, with "meh" performances. This has "ugh" performances and tries to add backstory and lore that: A. doesn't make much sense with the first movie, B. doesn't feature most of the characters we came to know in the first movie, and C. attempts to make you care for a character who, spoilers, WE KNOW WILL DIE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FIRST MOVIE!
