Death Walks at Midnight

The plot hits some slow spots, but a solid giallo featuring a decent twist and an amazingly annoying villain

With a much tighter script than DWoHH and the attractive Nieves Navarro (a.k.a. Susan Scott) playing a strong female lead guiding us through all the thrills and twist this was more captivating than DWoHH. Like so many gialli one of its themes is truth vs. perception with a protagonist whose testimony isn't trusted by others.

In my opinion, the downward spiral continued with this which is my least favourite Ercoli gialli. It’s just not engaging; confusing and uninteresting plot; too long with surprisingly little suspense - and it doesn’t help that the “killer” looks like Martin Short. It’s not all bad though: soundtrack is OK, Scott is fun and it has nice cinematography with good looking locations and sets, and a neat murder weapon, but compared to the other films by the same crew, it’s a big letdown.

Considering DWaM is filmed right after Ercoli´s previous film Death Walks on High Heels, is named similarly, and has Ercoli´s wife in the lead role, it is surprising how different the films actually are. DWaM is more serious, and offers much more psychological depth for Nieves Navarro´s aka Susan Scott´s lead character; and it actually has no nudity at all (striking contrast to the awkward peeping show of DWoHH). However the movie falls into boredom as it fails to evolve during it´s course.
