Something about New York just made the first installment work. But you got to hand it to the writers, instead of coming up with some new reason for Kersey to mercilessly kill all the bad guys in a metropolis, they just had some new bad guys rape his daughter. I'm not sure if that's lazy or truly genius writing, because who wouldn't go on a murder spree after that?

Death Wish gave us young Jeff Goldblum rapist, Death Wish II gives us young Lawrence Fishburne rapist. Can't wait to see which rapist's career was launched by Death With 3. Anyway, this one somehow manages to make the OG look like a serious work of sociopolitical commentary, no mean feat. The plot is basically identical, but the tone is all goofy and 80s and Hollywood instead of gritty and 70s and New York. The switch from killing muggers at random to personal revenge is a thematic downgrade.

Quality drops significantly from the original (Winner lets a couple of poorly staged scenes pass & sometimes places objects prominently in the frame for no reason; script-wise, the number of contrived coincidences grow ever more implausible w/ its nadir involving a name tag on a book), but it's nowhere near as ridiculous as part 3 which makes it less fun. Still, if you find today's ever-reprimanding liberals exhausting, there's something cathartic about this 80's spitball at progressive idealism

Although trashier and lower-rent than the original, it's still highly entertaining in its own way. This time it's a straight revenge flick instead of the general vigilantism of the first. And we get less talking and a lot more killing. Sounds good to me. It's actually very similar to the Taken series, but more primitive, raw, and more ...80s. I always used to catch this movie on TV back in the day, and I'd push aside whatever I was working on to finish it. Bronson was a true charismatic badass.

The setup is even dumber and more unbelievable than in the first film, which is a pretty high bar to clear. It does away with a lot of the ambitions the first film had, which made it somewhat interesting despite its many flaws, but at least the tradeoff, after the setup, is a much tighter and smoothly paced revenge film. Still not that interesting, but it's passable, barely.

Top badass moment? My goodness. Geri must be the most boring, conservative woman on the planet. She was so dull it was physically painful to experience. Fortunately, Batman wannabe Charles Bronson is back, this time chasing down a gang of naughty lads hanging out on the set of the latest Village People video. It’s like punk never happened. But I bet he'll regret putting cotton wool directly on those wounds; unless he enjoys pulling fluff out of his skin. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Death Wish II ticks all the boxes except Boring. And maybe Realistic.

A rehash, this time less interesting, makes less sense, and closer to exploitation. Kids used to watch this stuff. My only guess as to what sort of audience might still find this appealing is NRA gun nuts. I bet they wank to vigilante fantasies like this. P.S: While the first one introduced Jeff Goldblum as a street punk, this one features the then-unknown Laurence Fishburne as one.

After 20 yrs this movie is still enjoyable. The violence is raw, but realistic, and besides the dates clothes, furniture, etc.. this movie could be made just today.

Kind of a cool story, but marred by the graphic gang rape scene and other gratuitousness. Plus, the motley criminal gang was out of some ridiculous TV movie. Charles Bronson was great, just not this sequel.

Death Wish 2 is a poor and pointless sequel that kick started an immediate decline for the series. Cannon bought the rights to the franchise and they efforlessly tarnished the original with this ill taste sequel. The rape scenes in particular where incredibly controversial and crossed the line. Charles Bronson carries the film but the gangs lack purpose and are completely one dimensional. But like most Cannon productions, this feels completlely thrown together and it lacks any thought or logic.

This one is not as good as the first movie. Charles Bronson is game and is good in this movie but there are no other interesting supporting characters. The villains of the movie are one dimensional and full of cliches. The script is not different enough from the first movie.
