More ham than the deli counter, but that suits Christie's writing pretty well if you ask me.

The quintessential whodunnit movie.

I don't think there's an awful lot here if you know what's coming. There's no visual flair, no real attempt to develop the characters beyond what the mystery requires (the romance at the start just whizzes by) and the performances are mostly pretty hokey. I do like me a bit of Ustinov - I guess he elevates things a bit, but it's a shame the rest of the cast can't keep up. At 2 hours 20 it's too long and too dry.

Poirot is really fun throughout the film. The mystery itself is interesting, but nothing especially sensational (I would venture to say it's even a bit silly). The acting is all-around good, and it takes the time to introduce us to its colorful cast before the titular death.

The cast is not as strong as in "Murder in the Orient Express" with the exception of the funny dueat of Maggie Smith-Betty Davies and Mia Farrow - who steals the show! Very fun whodunit.

An Agatha Christie adaptation in dire need of a more pronounced sense of humor. There's some remarkable cinematography to help its standing but the plot gets more ridiculous [yes, even from this source] then I care for. What an ending, though.

Lovely constructed, not rushing into action. All the characters have their special traits, and Peter Ustinov is great as the omniscient Belgian.

helt klassisk, men ikke så godt spillet som Orient expressen..

A very straightforward Christie adaptation, with all the high and low points that implies. Ustinov is no David Suchet, of course, but he's a fun Poirot, emphasizing the jolly, conceited aspects of the character. I love Angela Lansbury here, Mia Farrow puts in an intense performance, and Maggie Smith looks *amazing* in a suit jacket. Nothing that I'd put in my Top Murder Mysteries list, but an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, and way better than the contemporary Orient Express.

Death on the Nile is a lot of fun from start to finish, enhanced largely by the beautiful lensing and the interesting, if somewhat silly plot. The performances range from cartoonish to subtle, with Lansbury, Smith and Ustinov taking the best lines and laughs.

A faithful interpretation of the book. Very much Ustinov at his best as Poirot (although in my mind he has since been overtaken by Suchet). Rich and impressive cast providing a classic Christie whodunnit, Some great acting and touches of dark humour. Good of its kind.

Bit redundant after seeing "Murder on the Orient Express" which didn't blow me away either. A less engaging version of the aforementioned film.

The script could have used some tightening, and the direction REALLY needed some. Pauline Kael called it "fatally perfunctory about emotion, atmosphere, suspense." For me, Bette Davis is the best thing about this. One wishes Maggie Smith's role were better (Kael calls her performance "triumphantly mannered"). Angela Lansbury hams it up mightily. Kael again: "Peter Ustinov is an ideal fatuous, vain Hercule Poirot," though his French--pardon, BELGIAN accent leaves something to be desired.

always great fun to see a majestic cast like this in a typical Agatha Christie murder case

Well, if you follow Christies script pretty accurately, you are never going to get anything other than a generic and formulaic "whodunnit", but the ensemble cast are terrific to watch ( albeit hamming things up unrelentingly). More people spying from around the corner, more doors opening and closing and over-heard conversations than a Brian Rix farce, and a complete lack of anyone trying to escape Poirots inevitable denouement makes us long for the days when villians said "its a fair cop, guv"

A fun little Holmesian murder mystery. Seems very cliché in this day and age (such as in the final scene where the detective tells how it happened), but it's amusing. I bet 50something women would love it.

Nowhere near as good as MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS; Ustinov actually plays Poirot for laughs. Good-looking, but that's where it ends.

I'm a big fan of whodunits, and this is one of the very best ones. For once Poirot is a human being instead of a joke, and both the mystery and the solution is very elegant.

Box OP Agatha Christie volume 2.

Following in Albert Finney's footprints, Ustinov perpetuates the corpulent screen image of master detective Hercule Poirot, but this balloon-like inflation (nearer to Nero Wolfe) will be a bother only to the most fanatical followers of Christie, the queen of the "who cares?" whodunit. In this one, the murder is more than an hour in coming, as motives for the crime are moved into place with all the laboriousness and boredom that must have gone into constructing the Great Pyramids.

For a film that's such a servable decent whatever, I can't imagine the Kenny Branflakes version being any better, 65mm cinematography aside. For one, everyone can act here.

Not bad, but Murder on the Orient Express is a better story and has a better cast. I prefer Finney's Poirot to Ustinov's too.

At the point where Niven says "everybody could have done it and they all had a reason to, it's incredible!" I wanted to scream "no it's not, you're in an Agatha Christie novel". As with Orient Express, the writing is droningly formulaic, trivializes death and on several occasions sinks to laugh-inducing stupidity, and It's the all-star cast alone that carries the entire production. Aside from a bad German accent from Jack Warden, the performances are the film's one redeeming feature.

Nothing like as good a Christie adaptation as "Murder on the Orient Express." But better than the other Peter Ustinov Poirot film, "Evil Under the Sun," especially thanks to Mia Farrow's intense performance.

A cunning, sharp, perfectly told, superbly acted whodunit. The reenactments in this movie are almost surprisingly unnerving and the cast is very compelling.

What a crew. The best whodunit movie I've ever seen. Also great music by Nino Rota and sacred places of Egpyt. Time travel to the stars. 5/5.
