Delicacies of Molten Horror Synapse
Remove ads
It begins like many of his hand painted films do but the usual dense array of colors and shapes dulls and not as mobile. When it starts to take shape a nice effect takes place with the shapes coming apart as ghosted duplicates slowly rise toward the top of the frame. The film is about to have an out-of-body experience, and detaches from itself nicely. (cantstopthemovies.com)

Middle of the road in terms of Brakhage's painted works.

Some cool images going on here. I like when you can see actual footage beneath the layers of paint. It also has the coolest title ever.

Rushing, hypnotic images of distorted television and chaotic streaks of paint. I'm tempted to say it goes on a bit too long, but I couldn't look away.

Some of Brakhage's films fascinate me, others bore me, this was in the second category, dull and pointless, though not entirely without some form of charm.

Certainly one of Brakhage's greatest masterpieces, as well as one of his most underrated films, and by far my favourite of his from what I've seen thus far.

Oddly enough it feels too long and repetitive, but it's still loaded with wonderful rapid imagery.

Apparently I don't value my time very much. Even when it's just 7 minutes.

Decent shortie with some stuff I've seen from Brakhage before and some I haven't. At its best, it contains some odd and very alien landscapes that crush up against the viewer.

One of Brakhage's most furious assaults on the eyes. Its relentless snatches of variegated abstractions give an impression of a consciousness on the verge of simultaneously imploding and ascending. Enough to make you feel like the entire universe is contained within.
