Den enfaldige mördaren

Powerhouse performance from Skarsgård in a superbly written and directed drama set in a decadent, violent and starkly stratified 1930s Sweden. I cannot recommend it enough.

Well acted and well made but nothing special. It never delves into the issues it presents, satisfied with going from anecdote to anecdote making its points through caricatures rather than humanity.

A simple but powerful film.

A touching and surprising film in which, in classic style, your preconceptions about the "simple-minded" main character are turned on their head repeatedly as he proves himself the most dignified, human, and often capable character among a society of mostly selfish strivers. Young Stellan Skarsgård's performance is consistently stellar - also props to Alfredson for casting himself as the baddie. The framing device and abrupt ending were the film's only weaknesses. Worth a watch.
