The hero-worship that Simone has for a pop singer is built to a crescendo until she passes out when she finally sees him up-close in a crowd of fans pushing him for autographs. She is later shocked when he lets her know that he does not love her. In an instant, she is caught "in a trance" and feels a murderous urge that is bigger than the both of them. (imdb)

Plays out just as I'd expected from the title, though it was a hard shift at the end, mostly because Désirée Nosbusch's character revealed such muted emotion throughout the film up to that point. I totally missed the SS references in the movie. The soundtrack was unnerving. When she started cutting him up I was a bit turned off since I really don't like that type of movie, so I was glad to see it wasn't an extended butchering sequence. The ending was not unexpected. She was ice cold.

One of those films that I admired more than actually liked. I enjoyed the krautrock soundtrack and capturing the zeitgeist, but it has trouble finding the right tone & pace; it starts as a teen drama and takes too long to get going. Protagonist remains distant and her obsession doesn't seem convincing. It moves to disturbing areas towards the end, and those scenes do have a very strong atmosphere, but they almost feel like they belong to another movie.

to quote pd187's exquisite phil hartman cross-reference on lboxd, which forced me to check this out in the first place: i SHOULD want to cook him a simple meal.. but i SHOULDN'T want to cut into him... to tear the flesh... to wear the flesh.... to be born unto new worlds where his flesh becomes my key...

Might work as a short film but at feature length it's more than a bit silly and takes its sweet time getting to the point

What a nightmare. This is how German horror ought to work... Full of symbolism as well. Schmidt's images (especially the framing and use of colours) are stunning too.
