The dancer, Diotima, meets an engineer and skier, Karl, in his cottage in the mountains where they fall in love and have an affair. When Karl's young friend, Vigo, meets her she gives him her scarf. The infatuated Vigo mistakenly believes she is in love with him. Karl sees Diotima innocently caressing Vigo and he believes that Diotima is betraying him with his friend. (imdb)

Some impressive dialogue/imagery to be found, especially in its personification of the characters as elements of nature, but other more action-oriented scenes are ruined by this same intrusive text. Riefenstahl as a silent actress is suitable, usually (the typical overacting is to be expected at the most dramatic moments).

Great imagery and a dramatic ending really do the heavy lifting here. The story isn't the greatest and I felt it was a little long but I was entertained the entire time.

Absolutely gorgeous cinematography and the real big ski race and rock climbing are impressive and enjoyable. But the pacing is too low, it feels way longer than it is, to keep it from being really great.

ignoring the very last moral pronouncement, i'm not sure why this has such low ratings to be honest. do people really like TRIUMPH OF THE WILL more than this? come on. (i actually thought leni reifenstahl directed this, but she only acted in it).
