Der Hund von Baskerville

Not as visually compelling as the 1914 and 1929 versions (I am talking here about the two German adaptations of Doyle's novel that preceded this film), but the barbed dialogue is delightful and much wittier than in those two films (even if the ongoing jokes about 'women' are misogynistic; in Lamac's defense this is done in a self-aware and almost sarcastic way).

A German version of whats probable the most famous of Sherlock Holmes stories. I doubt anyone would consider this as among the best versions filmed of The Hound of the Baskervilles, but it's got it's moments. A little rough in the edges and dull in the middle, but there was worse Sherlock Holmes adaptations in the 1930s. And plus points for Bruno Güttner actually looking like a Sherlock even if he was no great screen presence in this movie.
