There's an uneven quality to the gags and I was never entirely convinced of the chemistry between the two leads, but certain scenes (watch for Gregory Peck enjoying a plateful of pasta) had me bowled over. It mostly works as easy entertainment. There's a slight cheapness in how they handle a certain mentally-challenged character, but I think the comedy finds root in the awkward situations created more than his condition.

Stick two stars in a film and see if it works? Spoiler -- it mostly doesn't.

I have to say that I found it correct, well done... but pointless and not specially interesting. It's not boring and have some good scenes, and the punchy boxer is quite remarkable, but more than that I don't think I will remember anything from this movie specially in the future (apart from the 'fight scene' maybe). Of course, not one of Minnelli's best movies.

Some Golden Age romantic comedies are timeless. This one...not so much. The story was contrived and the jokes about Maxie's tragic condition made me deeply uncomfortable.

It had a few smirky moments but nothing really that enjoyable.

Fun romantic comedy with the plot trope of "if only they'd talked about it." Peck is likeable and Bacall plays an uncharacteristic cute housewife who really falls in love with this guy. Dolores Gray plays a tempting ex who isn't brainless. Mickey Shaughnessy's Maxie was charming. The highlights of the movie were the dresses the women were in. Fav scene: the fight at the end with Jack Cole's Andy performing Jackie Chan-esque fighting.
