The mysterious man hanging about at the research department of a big TV network proves to be engineer Richard Sumner, who's been ordered to keep his real purpose secret: computerizing the office. Department head Bunny Watson, who knows everything, needs no computer to unmask Richard. The resulting battle of wits and witty dialogue pits Bunny's fear of losing her job against her dawning attraction to Richard. (imdb)

hepburn did not age well, and tracy did, but looks about ten years older than he is, be that as it may this is still one fine romantic comedy. it shows working class' fear of (and hopfulness of triumph over) being replaced by the computer age. this may fail in being understood by the times now, but is well written and acted enough to make a solid movie.

I like both Tracy and Hepburn, but this is just so lame and cheesy it started to irritate me.

You have to seperate the acting from the (now very dated) plot to appreciate this film. Some obvious chemistry speeds the story along although the humour and style is somehow more stagey and obvious than I remember. Enjoyable as one of Hepburn and Tracey's best outings or potentially as a social commentry on the introduction of technology. Candy floss - sweet but insubstantial

Great performance from Hepburn. Kinda funny today to look back at the "electronic brain" technology presented in this film; we've come a long, long way.

Kate Heburn plays a Know-It-All in the research office and Spence plays a mysterious man that brings something even more mysterious along with him. That mysterious thing he brings with him is a know-it-all computer and Hepburn and her co-workers feared that it will make them and their brain obsolete and useless. It's good classic, light on the comedy but you got the talented Tracy, Hepburn, Joan Blondell and Gig Young in one movie!

Jag gilla verkligen Hepburn och Tracy. Men det är rent plågsamt att se dem i denna komedi vars manus helt misslyckat med att vara roligt. @BRYANT PARK, NYC

I passed by this one many times, and I'm so sorry I did. Fun movie with a great cast and performances.

We have learned nothing nearly 65 years later. In the workplace, automation is still sold as something that will help the worker. And, in some respects it has (in 1957, you had to call someone to find out a baseball factoid), but it lacks the human element (in 2021, you can't have Hepburn answer your baseball question).

Viewed December 24, 2021. A charming romantic comedy starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn that's also about the threat computers pose to the future of human employment - timely in some respects, but it doesn't touch on the horrors of writing and sending email. It coasts on Tracy and Hepburn's effortless charm, and the office setting leads to some inspired, colorful production design and a fun dynamic between Hepburn and her coworkers. The Christmas party scene is a highlight.

I love Katharine Hepburn but I've always been a bit iffy with Spencer Tracy, however, I can't argue that they have wonderful chemistry together. The whole setup and ending didn't work for me and lessened my enjoyment.

This is one of the weaker Tracy/Hepburn collaborations. It's way ahead of its time with its subject matter and Tracy and Hepburn are as strong as ever, but the romance portion of the romantic comedy is really underbaked here. If not for their history and intrinsic chemistry, it would probably seem even more out of nowhere. The computer design is great and no Tracy/Hepburn is bad, though. Hepburn seems to be legitimately cracking up on multiple occasions--I wonder if there was a lot of ad libbing
