Propaganda effort that looks just silly now. There are a few parts that are descent but the rest is just a mixture of boredom and bad taste.

The most dreadfully flat and boring war movie I've yet seen. Starts with good characters but takes them nowhere for so long by the time things happen again i didn't care. Even then the exciting scenes were directed unenergetically

War time propaganda movie that goes too far and is hard to take these days.

Mediocre anti-jap movie with ok characters and explosions.

This movie is overly dramatic and sentimental, but it has some good scenes, and even some funny moments. In the middle of the movie it gets slow and there isn't much going on until they finally get to Tokyo. I also found it annoying that everyone kept daydreaming and we'd have to switch the focus to their memories or something all the time. This movie needs more action.

It's Cary Grant, so of course it was going to be likable! Far from a perfect picture, though. Not even for propaganda purposes. Too much nonsense which should have been edited out for a better flowing experience. John Garfield was there, but his character never really felt at home in this submarine drama. Good battle scenes, once they finally came. Of the nonsense I did enjoy the Christmas party with Alan Hale as Santa with a mop under his chin!
