An Asian movie like we've seen many, except that this time it is set in Cambodia. Pity that it then doesn't at least show a bit more of its setting, if already it doesn't want to be remarkable style-wise.

Repeats the 'Bicycle Thieves' & 'Pather Panchali' neorealist schemes fit for the 3rd world in the context of Cambodia. Its weakness is the reluctance to further its essays on form and discover new imagery. Instead, it tries to melodramatize the story without digging into its social/economic subtext. Would attract no attention at all if it wasn't a Cambodian film.
