Pretty standard stuff. Not bad, but nothing terribly compelling either. Lawrence Tierney is always fun to watch, though. And for once Elisha Cook Jr.'s character doesn't make me want to punch him in the face.

A 30s Gangster film throwback from the noir era. It's good, briskly paced, and has a solid performance from Tierney but there's nothing that makes it memorable.

Effective cheapie crime film. It helps when you have a pyschopath playing a psychopath, and Lawrence Tierney's Dillinger is no exception.

Utterly forgettable. I even forgot to rate it until now after seeing it months ago.

From the title you can tell this is more a straight gangster movie than a true noir. It's cheap and quick and dirty, and quite a bit of gritty fun. But there's nothing superlative about it at all, it's pretty standard stuff. Lawrence Tierney is the only noteworthy aspect, intimidating and forceful in his screen debut. A few giddily enjoyable touches, such as the amusingly ironic ending... nothing to write home about, though.

NOT the quintessential biopic on Dillinger (1945).
