When Paleontologist Peter Larson and his team from the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research made the world's greatest dinosaur discovery in 1990, they knew it was the find of a lifetime; the largest, most complete T. rex ever found. But during a ten-year battle with the U.S. government, powerful museums, Native American tribes, and competing paleontologists, they found themselves not only fighting to keep their dinosaur but fighting for their freedom as well.

Interesting, and well delivered. Enlightening. Not terribly sensational. Very straight forward.

This documentary moves on in a steady pace, with a very matter-of-fact tone. You truly feel sympathy towards the folks who found Sue, especially Pete Larson and the way he was hunted down by the government. More on the subject of if it is morally okay to sell fossils to other countries by private people in general would have been interesting, though, even if this particular witch-hunt with Larson was not justified.

The incessant, over-wrought soundtrack seems to betray a lack of confidence in the drama of the story on the part of the film makers. While the story is interesting enough, it perhaps also lacks some more insight into the motivations of the government agencies and prosecutors. Like many documentaries, you suspect it's a little too sympathetic to its subjects.
