During an attack on a pack of Iguanodon, an egg is separated and ends up with the possession of a group of lemurs. The lemurs care for this egg and the young creature born from it, which they call Aladar (Sweeney). When a meteor shower hits earth, Aladar and his family must leave their homeland. Away from home and as close to danger as they have ever been, they meet up with a huge group of dinosaurs, led by Kron (Wright) and Bruton (Siragusa). All together they are trying to reach the nesting grounds, but it's not going to be easy. (imdb)

Want to know what this movie could have been? Look up the first teaser trailer, the one without any dialogue at all. The whole movie was going to be like that. Unfortunately, Disney chickened out and added a bunch of celebrity voices and cringeworthy humor, turning what could have been a fascinating cinema experience into just another dumb cartoon. Shame on them.

I think the best thing about this movie was at the time Mcdonalds had a special where you could dino size your fries and it was like a bucket. Yumm!

Would have been merely uninteresting if not for the moral: only a murderous, thick-skulled ornithopod would believe the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. That's not what Spock taught us.

See Disney? This! This is why you were stupid to ever even consider letting go of Pixar. The animation is beautitul, yes, but the movie itself is dry, dry, dry. I saw it in theatres and all I could remember of the experience was nifty looking dinosaurs, a pretty cool meteor shower and not a lot else. Saw it again, turns out that's about right. The movie's quite heavy-handed with its morals, and there's just not enough going on to hold interest. I'll probably never watch this again. Again.

Yes, yes, yes, it's a 3-D movie chronicling several dinosaurs and it will teach as well as entertain, all is well and good and-- BORING!

a boring cgi film about some boring dinosaurs doing some boring stuff and walking while being chased by non-boring badass dinosaurs but the boring dinosaurs win in the end so it sucks

I remember walking out of the theater when I was about 10 with my dad and we ran into one of his friend, who then began to rant and rave about how lame and stupid this movie was. Obviously I began to grow quite sad and my dad had to buy me McDonald's on the way home. Well his friend was right, the movie did suck.

After seeing so many movies with CGI creatures since "Jurassic Park", I can almost always tell whether or not they use real dinosaurs.

Great animation almost entirely wasted on a ridiculous account of dinosaurs that coexist with lemurs and who can communicate like people. They go on a mass exodus to find a place to live after an asteroid destroys their habitat, pursued by large carnivores. This is purely a cartoon and definitely not an informative movie about dinosaurs. It should have been more accurate and based on more believable facts. Poor plot and tedious script make it a chore to watch to the end.

Cute. Weird/new looking graphics, but still pleasing. Good story with a few laughs for the attentive adult, which of course, will fly right over a kids head (a la Shrek).

Exciting & fun, although sometimes i i found the dinosaurs distractingly too much like people. This movie has huge written all over it, expect it to be in the theaters forever, i was pretty wrapped up in it.

While the film may stand out on visual effects, created by a striking mix of computer graphics imposed on real life environments and scenery, more than anything else, it's still worth a viewing by those interested in CGI productions. Although the shallow nature of the film can be overlooked seeing the target audience, the ethical rights and morality which have crept in keep it all too sickly sweet. Looking beyond these falts and a couple of more annoying characters though, not all that bad.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie that could more accurately be described as a long and empty tech demo than this one. It's bland, simplistic, and it's not even that good looking 10 years later.

Everyone sing along now *Melody: Follow the yellow brick road*: "I've gotta protect the herd, I've gotta protect the herd, I've gotta protect the herd, I've gotta protect the herd, I've gotta ..." Good, excellent! Now keep that going for 85 minutes...

Nice animation and darker than most Disney films. The story does bare a resemblance to Land Before Time but not that much. This movie never really found it's audience, it was too brutal, graphic and slow for most kids and fans of fast paced action/comedy/adventure cartoons and dialogue and humor too childish for most adults. I enjoyed it.

The CG is great, but the storyline is incredibly forgettable. Perhaps if they stuck with the original decision to use no dialogue, the movie would've been far more effective. Stick with The Land Before Time.

I remember this movie pretty well because I was so amazed by the animation. Other than the effects, though, the story really isn't great. I mean, it's a good kids movie, there's nothing really wrong with it. It's just not incredibly special.

Probably Disney's objectively worst canon effort. Almost everything about it is bad, save for the landscapes (which are beautiful). Definitely pass on this one.

(2014-15 Disneython #33:) The meteor shower looks terrific even now fifteen years later, but a lot of the rest of the film has kind of dry, soulless vibe to it. Certainly none of the comedy really works at all, and the action/dramatic elements work a bit better, but fall well short of any kind of greatness.

Weird computer style animation, cliche land before time plot. I don't even mind the early 2000s bad Disney humor. I also had to watch this approximately 200 times as my kid brother was obsessed with it the way most kids like Frozen these days.

I watched this movie constantly as a child and as a result it's become sort of dull for me. Overall it isn't a horrible way to spend an hour , but somehow that extra half an hour reduces it to a pile of dust, weird dinosaur dynamics, and the ever present question "Why did lemurs raise this Dinosaur, because the reason they gave is just straight up not compatible?"

This had a very weird contrast between animation style and story. Like they first wanted to make a movie which depicts dinosaurs as realistic as possible (for that time) and afterward could only come up with a poor copy of The Land Before Time as plot to showcase their animation skills. While this kids aimed plot doesn't suit the film style at all.

It feels like it's trying to be Lion King, but obviously, it's not. Look, I love dinosaurs and all dinosaur things to bits, but this was such a run-of-the-mill talking animals feature that I expect I will forget about it in about 30 minutes of seeing it.
