Stephen Frears owns but he has done better. This is a solid movie with some good acting it just takes too long to establish what is going on. Audrey Tautou is once again stunning and amazing and Chiwetel Ejiofor continues to give me a reason to consider him great. Interesting movie, I love when she "bit."

Not that special. Although Audrey Tautou is once again the perfect example of ultimate cuteness.

Very interesting look at a side of society that is too often ignored in the cinema.

Highly recommended! Having worked illegally myself I have a slight bias but this is still a fantastic film! Watching this I was reminded of a Wong Kar-Wai film, which is a good thing.

Seriously underrated film, and one of Stephen Frear's best. Great performances, wonderfully photographed and grimy like all good noirs should be.

Well executed drama about illegal immigrants and they unlawful problems. Story impressed me a lot, but more I think about the movie more I find it's faults: characters and character development, thrilling, melodrama in the end. They did not success as good as the primary idea of the movie. Tautou is sweet and Ejiofor did his best, but the flick itself would need a bit extra boost to point the message.

Hints it's going to say something profound about multicultural London but when the message comes it's a little disappointing. Still, It looks great and I found myself rooting for the good guys. A good, enjoyable drama/thriller/heist with strong performances.

This does what great thriller pictures should do: provide visceral entertainment by watching heroes face off against omnipresent obstacles. But it goes deeper as the threats are complicated by social standings. That fusion inspires intense sequences involving not just solving the mystery, but also immigration raids, toxic workplaces, and corrupt bureaucrats. I could've done without one villain's repeated use of rape, however. Still it's a fantastic template for how to do a social thriller.

Audrey Tautou as Sanay is marvelous as the beautiful doe-eyed Turkish virgin being taken advantage of. Chiwetel Ejiofor as Okwe is equally good as a doctor on the run from corruption. Both in the country illegally, and people use that against them. Okwe discovers a shocking secret but can not call the police. The two secretly fall in love with each other, and eventually find a way out. I did not want the story to end. A very satisfying movie.

I'm not sure why this worked so well for me. The script is tight, but there are some broad dramatic elements that I would usually scoff at, and the whole film has sort of a dated early 90s feel to its style, but I was completely enraptured by its plot, the characters, and the politics.

"Dirty Pretty Things" is a window into the underbelly of Western society; it shines the spotlight on the immigrant men and women who, despite being the unsung linchpins of our cities, are also some of the most often and easily exploited. With his cast of extremely talented, and ethnically diverse players, Frears taps into this reality. The characters are the heart of this story, and by bringing their world to life, and framing it as a mystery turned thriller, something truly resounding is made.

Dirty Pretty Things is a film about something, and it's an issue that deserves looking at. This might not be the film to change your mind about anything or encourage you to get up and do something -- in large part because it skims more along the surface and definitely could have benefited from a longer running time -- but it's a worthwhile endeavor to sit through. It's poignant, well-made, and quite enjoyable, even if it won't be a captivating thriller. Just captivating is good enough.

Propulsive and engrossing look at grim and unpleasant subject matter, with Ejiofor and Tautou perfect as the human faces of the exploitation of immigrants. While the central metaphor of the story is a little too on-the-nose, and could have used a little more breathing room to properly explore, especially during a somewhat rushed and chaotic final act, this is still an engrossing ride, with Frears expertly balancing the noirish and socio-political elements for the most part.

A compact and small story about darker aspects of society, made a bit better than the script from a solid cast - especially C.Ejiofor is superb. *Preview*: #13#, story, reviews, cast, R2.

An effective thriller set on the edge of a seedy, lawless London underworld which feels as though it could be partly real, even if it pushes the bounds of plausibility. Ejiofor makes a great leading man with the qualities of nobility, shyness and brains that create an irresistible hero. Meanwhile Tautou finds one of her best roles playing against type as a repressed Turkish girl - who could have guessed? Combined with fresh visuals, these campy, pseudo-realistic thrills are a naughty treat.

I've been saying for so, so, so very long that Chiwetel Ejiofor is going to be the next black actor to win an Oscar. He needs to. He is GENIUS, and this film is a prime example of his talent. Great plot, and wonderful execution.

The film begins when an illegal Nigerian migrant finds a human heart clogging a toilet in the hotel in which he works. It evolves into an unconventional thriller about the black-market organ trade, and a thought-provoking examination of life in the underground of illegal immigrants in London.

Maybe a different subject, and the actors are good, just not in this, but honestly, the story is very "blah". Poor job on character developement, although the over-all darkness of the cinematography seemed to fit it. I've seen worse films, but few I can say I was truly as bored as I was with this, and somehow, I found myself looking at things around my living room with more interest,(things I don't normally notice) than I did this movie.

Compelling and satisfying tale of the most vulnerable people in London. A genuinely unusual thriller in which the characters have only friendship and a moral code to defend themselves from the most vile exploiters. Beautifully shot by Chris Menges.

The bit with the immigration officers was a bit jarring,as if that much effort has ever been expended here to catch anyone out. As for the rest of the film - just not that good I'm afraid.Ejiofor puts in a decent shift
