I wouldn't exactly call Norm McDonald's work in this film "acting" because he's literally himself during the film. However, if you find Norm McDonald funny then you MUST see this movie. If you find stupid comedies where people say direct and absurd things to one another then you MUST see this movie. I love both of the above and therefor it had me in tears. Especially the plant-fish-turned-drug-gun-fight scene.

Plot and pacing issues be damned, this movie is totally hilarious. If you don't find Norm Macdonald funny then I'm afraid to say there is no hope for you, my friend. His patented dry, wry humour is on display throughout this film, and while it buckles to the conventions of a standard comedy script in the final act, it is so deliciously funny in getting there that I really don't care. "I've never seen so many dead hookers in all my life!!"

Very smart, very funny. The comedy exists on several planes simultaneously. Constant humor, almost no filler. Absurd and cartoonist, but it works.

As hilarious as Norm is, what he really needed with this film was somebody who could act as an Adam McKay to his Will Ferrell, a collaborator to augment his strengths and compensate for his weaknesses. There's no denying that the film is funny, but it's a problem when a movie star's appearances on late night programs are more entertaining than the movies they're supposed to be promoting. Yes, he's a preternaturally gifted late night guest, but can't he channel that into something substantial?

A brazingly stupid low brow comedy that revels in its own idiocy, Macdonald's debut as a comedic lead bombed spectacularly on first release, and truth be told he really isn't much of an actor, but he works because the film plays to his strengths: delivering droll deadpan lines with a knowingly sly smirk. His considerable 'charm' is able to cut through Saget's rather tentative, flat footed direction, and he is aided immeasurably by a strong supporting cast, particularly in Warden and McDonald.

A very typical story for a comedy film of this era. What makes it stand out, aside from having some great jokes, is Norm's carelessness with the material, more in terms with the writing than acting. This makes the film pivot its attention more to the jokes (and concept) than the story. The ending sums it up. "So he's dead now. That's it. Bye". Hilarious and concise.

I would like to think that there are a couple of extra layers of irony at play here. Some of the music and plot choices and things like the opening narration "That's me" could easily be clever parody of the current studio comedy landscape of the time, or could just be a product of cliche and lackluster writing. At any rate, there's about 10 minutes worth of credits, and even that only gets it to 80 minutes so it's a quick and easy watch with enough Norm goodness to be a good time.

There are some funny moments in this movie and sometimes the jokes fall flat. The script is predictable and straight forward. The movie seems like it is trying to be a raunchy and inoffensive comedy all at once. This mix does not always work.

This is a commonly overlooked movie that's much funnier than you'd expect (if you like Adam Sandler/Farrely Brothers type movies). The odd thing is that every person I know that has seen this movie says it was the funniest movie they ever saw the first time, but then upon repeat viewings it kind of falls flat. Weird. Watch it once.

You'll definitely like this if you like Norm as much as I do. Norm has never claimed he can act and that's part of why his performance is so fun. But you can tell the studio cut it down, because in the prison scene Norm's just dying to go for the obvious and say "gay sex" or "anal rape." There's also a lot of famous people who appear in small roles that makes the whole thing more fun.

This movie has pretty much slipped from the public consciousness at this point. It's the only movie Norm MacDonald ever wrote, which frankly is the only reason why I watched it. It's a damned shame, because it's really funny. It only has a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is kind of blowing my mind. When considering low-brow-ish comedy movies, it's one of the better ones I've seen in some time.

I love Norm MacDonald, but even he admits that he can't act. Even though this could possibly work despite it, Saget's direction is so terrible and the plotting of the script is so banal that it's regrettable and disappointing. There are some good lines, but that's about it. The campyness makes me think of Wet Hot American Summer, but it makes no attempts at parody remains predictable. Still, Norm delivers his lines in the same hilarious cadence of his Weekend Update news anchor.

You've got the novelty of having so many well known actors popping up in small roles and the setup, two guys who are only good at revenge pranks, and it all seems like the makings of a cult classic. But Dirty Work doesn't really come together due to the flat pacing and overly predictable punchlines. Norm Macdonald's flat style of delivery doesn't work for the lead role and makes the prank antics seem passive and mean rather than devious and witty.

Oh my my my. Before this movie, I was under the impression that I was a fan of Norm McDonald "persona". I've chuckled at his purposefully awful routines at celebrity roasts and enjoyed his bizarre take on "Weekend Update". But this? What...what IS this? There ARE funny people in this movie (you have 4 seconds of John Goodman (why bother?) , Lange, Chase), so it comes as a real surprise when there is literally NOTHING to laugh at. I actually pined for an Adam Sandler flick about halfway through.

The story is just an excuse for a few very funny bits and plenty of cheap filler. Norm is funny without even trying, but he hardly even tries to act here. Artie is also as expected, but the rest are forgettable. All in all, this is a very average film, but self-aware enough that you can forgive it for not trying very hard.

Also, "What I don't understand is... when you owe a bookie a lot of money, and he, say, blows off one of your toes, you still owe him the money. Doesn't seem fair to me. Not a great movie to be sure, but for fans of Artie Lange this is a must-see. Don't expect much, but enjoy its light-hearted fare and surprisingly good premise (revenge for hire) even if the execution is amateurish and low-budget (not to mention low-brow.) A guilty pleasure, nothing more.
