|
Disconnect is well acted, keeping the film reasonably engaging. The theme of self-isolation exasperated by a growing online presence and other dangers therein is less well executed. The bullying story is the strongest, with the focus shifting from the son to the father, and a moderately nuanced looked at the bully. The fraud plot line is weaker, with more going on yet less explored. The journalist’s story is inconsistent. I liked the music throughout but the climactic overlap was too cheesy.

This is not a pretentious movie, but it's made with great skills. A movie about people and society. Almost a reportage about human today. A view from outside. Unlike many others, technology is shown here trough its most common usages. No magical impressive hackers or the likes, no secret agency, but the very opposite: Common usages. If like me, you use your phone and computer every day, then you'll feel that this movie is more real than others.
