Amy Adams is of course a pro and slips back into the role of Giselle without missing a beat. The movie has WAY more songs than the first movie and tbh it gets a little bit annoying at points, but it still has its charms and I liked seeing the bits of old school 2D animation when they go back into the cartoon world. I could kinda live without Maya Rudolph in big roles tho, she’s fine in TV guest spots. I’m sure Disney Plus wanted this to be another goddamn series and Amy Adams was like “no” lol

Adams is fantastic, and so is Marsden for that matter, but there the genuine quality starts to dry up. The last third and closing acts are very scruffy in particular.

More music than the original, but not necessarily always a good thing. Other than that it was a somewhat cute story that left me smiling at the end.

The cast is the brightest spot of this too-little too-late followup, with Amy Adams falling right back into Giselle like no time at all had passed and adding even more little things to the character. Dempsey, Menzel, and Marsden are all in good form as well, and Gabriella Baldacchino is pretty great as older Morgan. But it's so cluttered narratively and hollow-feeling that it never comes close to recapturing the simple magic of the original. About as meh as it could have been.
