what's the point of this exactly?

Rivette at his most romantic. More palatable than the long version thanks to showing less of the cringeworthy draughtmanship of the ostensible artist. I'd have an existential crisis too, if I drew like that! And it beggars belief that any artist living in the wondrous light of the south of France would have a studio with no windows ... But there is still some lovely imagery here even though none of the characters are particularly engaging. Not even the pretty but petulant 'noiseuse'.
